Readers will recall, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had initially approached Govinda to enact the role of Chunnilal in his Shah Rukh-Madhuri-Aishwarya starrer Devdas. Later, Bhansali even had a meeting with Saif Ali Khan for this particular role. But the role has now landed in Jackie Shroffs lap. When we contacted Jackie to verify the development, Jackie admitted that he had been signed for the said role, which was enacted by Motilal four decades ago. In fact, I even shot for three days at Film City, Jaggu sounded thrilled. Everyone knows that Govinda turned down the offer since he did not want to play second fiddle to SRK. But what about Saif? Why did he turn down the offer? Saif was unavailable for comment, but his secretary, Zahid Khan, told us that Saif was never signed for the project in the first place, though he did have a meeting with Bhansali. But the media went ahead and wrote that Saif had been signed for the film, which was not true, Zahid clarified. That sets the record straight!
