M Cream is an upcoming feature film that follows the exploits of four friends who set out on a journey to the far reaches of the Himalayas, in search of a mythic drug. The journey serves to portray a new generation in India, one that is both rebellious and defiant. Written & directed by NYU graduate Agneya Singh, the film features a stellar cast of theatre actors including Tom Alter, Ira Dubey, Barry John, Imaad Shah, Auritra Ghosh and Lushin Dubey among others.
M Cream has been garnering attention and awards across the world. It received the 'Best Feature Film' award at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. The film has also been played at the prestigious Cork International Film Festival and the Braunschweig International Film Festival. Moreover, M Cream was the only Indian feature film to be included in the 2014 Film Columbia Festival, screening alongside Birdman, Foxcatcher and Goodbye To Language 3D.
Film critics have hailed M Cream as a new, original and bold addition to the cinematic landscape. Senior Irish film critic Don O'Mahony commented, 'M Cream suggests the emergence of a different voice in Indian cinema: one that is curious, playful and unafraid to see where things lead'. The film has also generated media attention on account of two sex scenes featuring the principal characters.
The film also features a fresh soundtrack composed by Studio Fuzz and features musicians from rock bands Parikrama, The Circus and Cyanide. Renowned vocalist Shubha Mudgal, French folk group Moriarty and Brazilian singer Lili Rocha have also contributed to the background score. The sound track has been widely appreciated by industry insiders and festival audiences.
M Cream is a tale of youthful adventure fueled by sex, drugs and rebellion. It presents a realistic portrait of the youth; a portrait that has rarely been seen in mainstream cinema. While the film is being heralded internationally, M Cream is yet to be released officially in India. It has already been screened at several film festivals in India and has also been awarded 'The Yellow Rose' for 'Best Upcoming Feature Film' at the 2015 Jaipur International Film Festival.
It appears that M Cream is not only a wildly enticing feature film but also a representation of the larger generational rift in the country. Needless to say that controversy will stalk this film owing to its intriguingly shocking narrative. That being said, the youth is already rallying around M Cream, as it is possibly one of a handful of films that truly looks at the world from their perspective.
M Cream has been produced by Agniputra Films and is slated for a 2015 release.
