During the past year, Preity Zinta has been diligently rebuilding her life as an actress post her stint in the IPL. She produced a fiasco Ishqk In Paris, and recently made a guest appearance with Saif Ali Khan in Happy Ending.
Recalling childhood memories of her birthdays, Preity giggled, "My parents used to have these birthday parties in Simla where I'd stand at the door and ask the guests for my gift. And I'd ask them to leave if they didn't bring anything. Ah, childhood! You get away with so much when you are innocent. Bachpan ke din bhula na dena!"
Preity will soon be seen in a completely rustic avatar opposite Sunny Deol in Neerraj Pathak's Bhaiyyaji Superhit.
About her gradual return to acting she borrows her friend Shah Rukh Khan's line, "Abhi toh picture baqi hai, mere dost. If after 30 years I can convey even an iota of the grace possessed by Jaya Aunty (Bachchan), I am blessed."
She regrets neither her stormy stint in the IPL nor her disastrous tryst with film production. "I am not the one to regret anything. I am not much of a planner either. I don't know why but my name was brought into every controversy regarding the IPL's relationship with the entertainment industry; which is okay! I am okay with the good, bad and the ugly."
Preity has been through rough times. But stronger for it. "I can handle it. When the going is not so great you know who you are and who your friends are. So bring on the bad and the good. I can take both on my chin. I am a gutsy gal."
Preity is happy with life. "It doesn't matter how the world looks at you. It's how you look at yourself that matters. I've great friends, a great life."
Preity Zinta has been spending a lot of time outside Mumbai. "Whenever I'm not shooting I'm out of the country. Don't get me wrong. I love Mumbai to death. But tell me what can an actor do in the city if she isn't working? I can't go out partying. I can't even take a jog. I can't go out with any guy. If I do I've to beg some women to come along, otherwise the guy and I get linked up. I can't handle it anymore."
In LA where she spends a lot of time with her brother and niece, Preity felt patriotic this Republic Day. "I watched the Republic Day parade on television. I loved the parade. It's a moment of great pride every year. There's so much chaos all around us. That's one day and one sphere of activity where we see a comforting discipline and elegance."
