Ghai’s plans to start film institute in Haryana go kaput

Subhash Ghai’s plans of starting another film institute in Haryana seem to have gone for a toss as the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the allotment of a plot allotted to him by the Haryana government A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain ordered Ghai to return the 20-acre land in Badhsa village of Jhajjar district to the village council by saying that giving the village council’s land to Ghai did not serve any public purpose.

The Court also instructed the village council to return the amount of Rs. 8 crore that it took from Ghai’s company Mukta Arts in 2010. The Haryana government, headed by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had permitted Ghai to purchase the land from the council. However, the court quashed the allotment on a plea filed by retired teacher and Badhsa villager Nafe Singh.
