Ghais confidence in Iqbal

Most producers like to keep the prints of their film in lock and key after its release print is ready. No preview screenings of the film prior to its release [fearing negative publicity/feedback] are held, even the distributors associated with the film arent shown the film till a day prior to its worldwide release, in most cases.

But Subhash Ghai is made of sterner stuff! The Showman has been having open screenings of his soon-to-be-released film IQBAL for his friends and colleagues in the industry. Thats not all, he even invited handpicked mediapersons for an exclusive dekho of the film on Wednesday, August 10 — 13 days prior to its release.

Depicting the life of an 18-year-old deaf and dumb youth [essayed brilliantly by new-find Shreyas Talpade], who aspires to join the Indian cricket team, IQBAL is one of the most sensitive films produced in Bollywood this year.

Although Bollywood has produced a few films with cricket as its backdrop, this one is different from the rest: IQBAL tells the story of an underdog, who reaches the winning post despite odds. Also, the execution of the subject is what makes the difference. Without a shred of doubt, IQBAL ranks amongst Kukunoors finest efforts.

Interestingly, Ghai never watches any of his films, even those directed by him, more than twice. But Ive watched IQBAL six times already, he confides IQBAL releases worldwide on August 26. A detailed review will appear on its day of release.
