‘Dogs’ dropped?

This project was written about extensively even before it was officially announced. DOGS, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor in principal roles, first made waves due to its offbeat theme and casting. Later, Diana Hayden’s exit from the project was written about at length. DOGS is in the news yet again. Reportedly, the makers — producer Ausaja and director Mukul Abhyankar — have dropped the project since the financiers found it a nonviable proposition. While the media was busy speculating various reasons, we decided to speak to the makers to get the first-hand report. There was talk that the financiers wanted a change in the principal cast, but the makers were adamant. Ausaja didn’t evade the topic when this writer called to verify the facts. “All I wish to state is that the offbeat nature of the film led to the delay. Also, the financiers sighted commercial reasons for their reluctance,” he admitted honestly. On his part, Mukul Abhyankar reiterated that he had scripted the film with these two actors in mind and there was no way he would opt for a new cast. “I can’t visualize anyone else other than Mr. Bachchan and Rishi-ji,” he says. Meanwhile, Bachchan has committed to do another project for Ausaja in the future, while Mukul is starting a fresh project himself.
