‘Deewaar’ postponed to June 25

Gaurang Doshi's DEEWAAR was initially supposed to hit the screens on April 28. The big-budget extravaganza was postponed to May 4. But the latest development is that the release date of this Big B - Sanju - Akshaye - Amrita Rao starrer has been shifted further. It will now hit the screens on June 25. Gaurang Doshi confirmed the development in an exclusive conversation with this writer. It's true that I have postponed the film to June 25 for certain reasons, the enterprising producer informs me, I felt it would serve no purpose in releasing the film on June 4 because two more films starring Amit-ji [Bachchan Sr.] are releasing in quick succession - DEV on June 11 and LAKSHYA on June 18. As producer of DEEWAAR, I felt that June 25 was more appropriate because I would get an open run for the next two weeks, since no big film is scheduled to release till at least mid-July. The decision to postpone the film was arrived at on Wednesday evening [May 12]. And by the time you're reading this, Gaurang must've informed his distributors of the new release date. However, Gaurang denies that Bachchan Sr. requested him to push the film to a latter date since the doting father wanted son Abhishek's film YUVA to have an open run of two weeks at least. Not true at all, Gaurang clarifies, Amit-ji is the last person to dictate any such terms and manipulate things. He never involves himself in matters like this. The decision to postpone the film was entirely mine. Although DEEWAAR has been postponed to June 25, the plans of holding multiple premieres of the film will continue to remain as they were - only the dates will be altered, obviously. The premieres will now take place on June 24, Gaurang divulges.
