Kalpana Lajmi and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's heart-wrenching story may now be told finally! The unusual love story between a 17-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man has been penned and ready to be translated into celluloid and once the casting has been done, will be ready to roll this year.
Says a source, the biopic - that details the life of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was earlier being produced by Pooja Bhatt. There was even talk that Pooja would essay the role of Lajmi in the trilingual project which had been tentatively titled The Tempest in English, Kal Boishakhi in Bengali and Dhumuha in Assamese. But now buzz is that Kalpana Lajmi, who was earlier looking for a co-writer to complete the script, has now completed it and is currently in talks with director Prem Soni to direct the film. She and the director will be co-producing the film. The as-yet-untitled film is about her life and journey with the legendary musician, lyricist, singer, poet and film-maker from Assam. The film is mounted on a big scale and will be Kalpana Lajmi's biggest film till date. The film won't be a trilingual, but made in Hindi. Kalpana and Prem are already in talks with a couple of studios to present the film.
When we contacted Prem Soni, he said, "Kalpana has spoken to me and I would prefer Kalpana to make the final announcement."
While for Pooja Bhatt's production names like Prosenjit, Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin had been tossed around for the lead role, it will be interesting to see who is going to play the iconic Bhupen Hazarika in Lajmi and Soni's film. Two big stars have already been approached.
