Ban Mika from stage performances?

The slap on stage is the latest in a long history of outrageous behavior that has become the trademark style of singer Mika Singh.

While understandably, no colleague, musician, or producer is willing to speak out against Mika's latest instance of public misconduct, a reputed singer on condition of anonymity says, "Mika kuch bhi, kabhi bhi kar sakta hai. It is very strange that he now talks of protecting the izzat of women. He has never shown any kind of respect for women. I am sure you remember the notorious incident where he had grabbed Rakhi Sawant and smooched her at a public gathering. He shouldn't talk about protecting women's dignity. It doesn't befit him."

A leading music composer condemns what he calls Mika's "cave-man tactics". "If you meet this guy he is exactly the way his songs sound. There's an undercurrent of aggression and misogyny about him which is very disturbing. I am appalled that he thinks he can get away with taking the law into his own hands. How can he raise his hand on a member of the audience at his concert? It's like hitting a dinner guest in your house. If he had a problem with the guy, he should have complained to the cops. He can't take the law into his own hands."

Describing Mika as 'a self-styled Salman of the singing world', a prominent lyricist says, "It seems Mika is very impressed by Salman Khan's public conduct. There was apparently an incident on board a flight where Salman's security guard allegedly roughed up a co-passenger. This incident on stage where Mika allegedly slapped a doctor looks like an instant-replay version of the Salman Khan's incident."

Babul Supriyo, a minister in the ruling BJP government says the party doesn't condone bad behavior by public figures. "Mika has a fan following. Youngsters look up to him and follow him. Cricketers who misbehave with their fans are asked to immediately leave the field. It should be the same with all public performers. Why should only cricketers be shown the red card? This is not a good example to set."

When contacted by a television channel and ticked for taking the law into his own hands, Mika was heard retorting, "Why should I be answerable to anyone? I don't want to talk to you." And he hung up on the correspondent from the TV channel.

We also tried to get his brother Daler Mehndi to comment on Mika's outrageous behavior. Not surprisingly, Daler opted to be silent on the topic.
