8 films releasing this Friday

Last Friday (Sept 24) saw the release of 5 films i.e. Tumsa Nahi Dekha, King of Bollywood, Madhoshi, Dobara and the dubbed Hindi version of Choker Bali none of which have done wonders at the box-office. Now this Friday (Oct 1) sees the release of as many as 8 releases, which is a record number for the year 2004. However apart from the Pritish Nandy Communications Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jao (starring Tanisha Mukherjee, Akshay Kapoor and Rashmi Ghosh), none of the other releases can be tagged as a big film. The second film is Sanjay Udadhay’s cop drama Satya Bol starring debutante Manish Singh with Tina Parikh and Sayaji Shinde. Third is Time Magnetics small-budget film AK-47 starring Ashish Vidyarthi, Om Puri, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Meghna Naidu. Other releases include small budget sleazy flicks like Vinod Chhabra’s film Shaque (which was stuck for a long time with the Censors for a topless scene by its actress Janki Shah) and Mahindra Dhariwal’s sex-comedy Tauba Tauba that has a 15-year-old boy fantasizing over his school teachers in bikinis and sexy outfits. The latter has been passed by the Censors with an ‘A’ certificate despite objections by some teachers association. Finally there is a string of small-budget crossover films. Quartet Films’ Let’s Enjoy is an urban fun film about a Delhi farmhouse party starring Ashish Chaudhary and Arzoo Govitrikar. Pamela Rooks Dance Like A Man starring Arif Zakaria, Shobana and Anoushka Shankar is the National Award winner for the Best English Film. Last and probably the least is the less-known comedy Bhola in Bollywood by Sumbul-Gazi.
