Frameflixx Awards goes one notch up

What an animated journey! Everything from the hotly contested nominations, long jury meetings, best summer-time venue (Goa) and months of hard work by the team came to a fitting conclusion on May 16th, culminating several weeks of suspense in one smashing grand award ceremony in Goa.

The occasion: Frameflixx 2 Awards organized by animation education major Frameboxx. It couldn’t have been bigger than this: the fantastic venue, Morjim beach, was packed with 500 strong attendees, with renowned industry stalwarts including Pankaj Khandpur, Seshaprasad, Kireet Khurana, Vaibhav Kumaresh, Ashish Kulkarni, Yunus Bukhari, AK Madhavan, Biren Ghose and Sanjay Gadhvi among them.

As the wave of animation is surging high internationally, Indian animation is seeing some positive growth too. Frameflixx mirrored that; with the quality of movies screened, no one could guess that this was the work of students! Thanks to awards like Frameflixx Animation Awards, Indian artists and students are getting into the habit of short film making, even as the quality of Indian Animation production keeps improving with time.

The event kick-started with the opening remarks of Rajesh Turakhia, MD of Frameboxx. “We have been getting an overwhelming support from the industry. Despite Frameflixx being organized in Goa, a majority of industry veterans managed to make it to the event. Plus the quality of films has grown compared to last year. We wish to cross more landmarks in terms of quality in the forth coming editions of Frameflixx,” said Rajesh.

The nominated entries this year were challenging to judge as they were exceptional. As A K Madhavan, CEO of Crest Animation Studios and part of the award jury, said, “The level of competition was so good it was fun to judge the entries. Whether it’s an Oscar or a Filmfare award the judgment process remains the same, based on certain parameters like the quality of animation, the character design, background design or the rig. Obviously there are parameters that you need to choose which is better than the other.”

Amongst the key highlights of the event was the moment when Big Animation CEO Ashish Kulkarni and Artery FX CEO Yunus Bukhari took the centre stage to compare the show in a unique Hyderabadi lingo! The result was as expected – a thunderous round of applause.

Ashish Kulkarni was mighty glad with what he saw, “There’s a huge change. Unlike earlier, most films had their storytelling in place. Also, the pre-production and the post-production (sound) was really taken care of, and this is something which is heartening to see that students are not only production driven, but are looking to the whole process of ideation-to-script and script-to-screen. The timing, concept and the direction were mind blowing.”

Winners of 11th TBS DIGICON6 India edition Awards were also announced and the awardees felicitated by handsome cash prizes sponsored by Digicon and Frameboxx. These awards were presented by TBS Digicon’s Taka Fumi Yuki who also announced Frameboxx as their Indian partner for the next edition.

In a nascent industry like this, getting the community together and pushing for collaboration is of primary importance. And Frameboxx truly managed to do it well. Proof: At the end of it, every spectator was truly animated!

Long way to go Frameflixx!
