Ugly Aur Pagli has a tolerable first half which somehow or rather predictably nose dives to an uninspired second half. The desi version of the Korean film, “My Sassy Girl” , Ugly aur Pagli could have been appreciable, the tempo of the first half was maintained. Sadly, it doesn’t. A flawed script looms high over the performances and direction of the film. The script and the screenplay of Ugly aur Pagli are the major let downs. The girl Kuhu is almost as characterized as an alien, with no friends. Rare to believe someone as bubbly as her having no friends. Even people who have major attitude problem do have friends. The direction by Sachin Khot is okay. The music by Anu Malik leaves a lot to be desired except for the funky talli number. The placement of songs again creates problems in Ugly aur Pagli, ruining the pace of the film. Ugly aur Pagli is lucky to be a low budget movie. It has already made a profit. The movie made on a budget of 5 crores from Pritish Nandy Communication has been sold to Percept Company for 6 crore. Factor in satellite rights and stuff, Ugly aur Pagli has recovered money and made some. Ugly aud Pagli as a movie however, is a bore.

What I liked about the movie:
1. The dare that Ranbir Shourey asks Mallika Sherawat to do dress as a superwoman, with her undies out. 2. Sushmita Mukherjee’s superb take off on yesteryear’s actresses looking like a cross between Sharmila Tagore and Asha Parekh

What I didn't like about the movie:
1. Cant believe why a slap happy, always ready to dominate, Mallika Sherwat suddenly becomes low and sad in the last reels of the film, and that too when she falls in love with Ranvir? She actually goes to Kolkata for two years, which is something beyond understanding. 2. Gaurav Kapoor to be the prospective groom meets up with Mallika Sherawat for marriage. It is not shown how he knows about Ranvir Shorey. And to top it, why will Ranvir teach Gaurav(a rank stranger) how to woo Mallika, when he has begun to fall in love with Mallika and is searching for her desperately? 3. The futuristic stories that Mallika Sherwaat writes for Bolywood in the movie, are real bore when it comes on the screen. They seem to be as moronic as the dream sequences of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. 4. Some scenes are left incomplete because of the writer’s lack of completing what he started with. For instance, a scene in which the producer to whom Ranvir goes to, challenges him to name any person and he would show a movie made on him. The scene goes cut, and in the next scene we see Ranvir kicked out! Imagine Ranvir telling the name Sachin Khot, and the producer in the movie pulling out a copy of My Sassy Girl. Now that would be cheeky. 5. Mallika Sherawat slaps Ranvir so many times, but his cheeks don’t get red. Okay we can forgive this one.
