When one sees an Akshay-Priyadarshan combo teamed with great music and comedy experts such as Rajpal Yadav and Paresh Rawal, one would think this is just another laugh riot from Priyadarshan.
But BHOOL BHULAIYAA is something different and a lot more satisfying than his other "different" release KYON KI.
To start off with, BHOOL BHULAIYAA has its share of laughs with Paresh Rawal and his fellow mansion inhabitants getting spooked by the spirit's many actions. Seeing Paresh Rawal running around in utmost fear is hilarious as so it is to see other people's reactions.
Even when Akshay enters right before the intervals the laughs are still apparent.
But despite the funny moments there are the spooky elements as well. The constant throwing, creaky doors and not to mention Manjulika's supernatural voice managed to give you a real jolt.
BHOOL BHULAIYAA's pace is good, despite taking a few hiccoughs on the way.
*For one the length is pretty long and one think the editors ought to have cut some scenes out of the original motion picture.
*The chartbusting BHOOL BHULAIYAA title track being stationed at the End Credits fails to make an impact...why not use it as a background for the CC Titles at the beginning?
*Akshay Kumar's Entry is too late and that is what the audience looks forwards to the most.
The good points of BHOOL BHULAIYAA are:
*It has an element of mystery and a surprising plot twist which makes the film more than a happy-go-lucky comedy.
*The film is surprisingly scary, especially where Manjulika's supernatural voice is involved not to mention the amazing exorcism scene at the end.
*The pace, despite the fact of it being lengthy and Akshay's late entry, is good.
*The music is ok, but apart from Labon Ko and Bhool Bhulaiyaa there is nothing to look forward to.
*The film comes with a surprising amount of grandeur. It looks great with amazing cinematography and grand sets.
The acting from the cast is the best...as usual Akshay Kumar turns out the best performance of the lot. Vidya Balan is mediocre in the first half...saving one of her best performances of her career until last. Paresh Rawal is hilarious and Amisha Patel looks pretty and does well in a substantial role.
Overall BHOOL BHULAIYAA is one hell of a comic joyride along with a supernatural jolt. The film has you scared in one minute while cradling your stomach with laughter the next. A much better film than its opposing release LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG.
What I liked about the movie:
The supernatural element, the title track, acting, cinematography, the look of the film,jokes were hilarious.
What I didn't like about the movie:
Akshay's late entry.
