Goal is a story of hope, dreams, racism, fun, love, pride, honor, corruption, deceit, Asia, and most importantly, football. Does the movie click like the YashRaj multiplex sports flick, Chak De! India? Does it score in terms of storyline, narration, screenplay, dialogues, characterization and songs? Well, let's move ahesd and check whether it does.
Southall United Football Club is going to the dogs. Theres no money, no sponsor, no stars, no coach, and no good player. And after receiving an eviction notice, the owner dies out of shock. 11 months are in hand to save the club, and it's up to Shaan to do something to bring the club back to honor, and shoo the bulldozers away. Ex Southall United Football player is still dealing with his demons, seeped in alcohol, when he comes across Shaan, who requests him to come help the team as coach.
Sunny Bhasin has dreams of playing with Aston, UK's major Football club, but his dreams are badly crashed when they don't appoint him because of his color. Coach Tony Singh, seeing his game and talent, persuades him to joing SUFC, a thing which he reluctantly agrees to. Shaan and the rest of the team are unhappy at first, but later become cool with him. To deviate Sunny for playing the cup, the commentator tempts him to Milwall City Football Club. Ultimately, he sacrifices his all to help Southall win to glory.
Rumana is a medical student who falls in love with Sunny, despite his acrid behavior with Shaan, her brother, but later realises he just wants fame and nothing else. So she decides to break up with him, making him feel more insecure than ever.
I went in the cinema hall being just minded and stepping into the critic's shoes. And even though I did that, I just loved the movie. Well, to be frank, it was even better than the ever-hyped, madly publicized SRK movie, Om Shanti Om, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's eye-candy-without-storyline flick, Saawariya. But there was something I didn't like about the movie
What I liked about the movie:
Almost everything, from the energy to the emotions.
What I didn't like about the movie: Billo Rani. The song came up at such an interjecting time that it was difficult to digest it.
