OK, enough is enough. Let's break it down now. Last four-five days, I've got totally messed up by such confusing reviews by different people about the two movies released on 4th. Here is mine about Jaane Tu... in simple words.
To be honest, the plot is very very tacky but it still works because of two main reasons; i) the sub-plots and ii) the acting.
Just the way drops of water join together to make an ocean, the same way Jaane Tu... works. Okay, well; it may not be an ocean, but a small river at least. But I'm warning again, don't expect anything path-breaking when you enter for the movie. It's because if you have watched the trailer, you pretty much know by now what you're about to experience.
What I liked about the movie:
The most pleasant experience from this movie is the acting. Almost every one in the film acted; no, not acted; lived their own life in the movie, superbly. Starting from Imran and finishing at Paresh Rawal; everyone was simpler than 'simple'. It never looked like I was watching a film, it looked like some teenagers made videos of the daily happenings of their lives and put them together. The dialogues, the happenings, the surroundings and everything else never really looked filmy [except....I've discussed that later]. Those were just out of the daily lives of a bunch of teenagers. The characterizations were superb. It didn't look like the actors were doing it for the sake of the movie. It looked like that they would have done it the same way in their own lives.
Among the actors, the person who impressed me the most is Genelia D'souzza. You know what, she's a textbook version of the word 'actress'. I mean, she's so natural that I'm finding it awkward to describe her even using the word 'natural'. Is there any other word that expresses a deeper meaning than 'natural'? If anyone knows, please let me know; ha?
Imran khan, as a newcomer, proves his worth sincerely. The positive thing about his acting is that he never tried to go over the top. Neither he looked lacking confidence for a while, nor he was boasting with arrogance. He tried his best to portray possible what he does every single day; and yes, he succeeded. It would be really interesting to see how he handles if he's given a chance to portray something different from the 'chocolate-boy' character. 'Kidnap', his next movie, must be the next one on the cards to get our noses in.
The friend circles, the parents and everyone else were awesome. Everyone acted superbly.
Music was another plus point; i) Kabhi Kabhi Aditi ii) Pappu can't dance sala & iii) Nazrein Milana Nazrein Churana was the picks of the lot.
The cinematography and screenplay was upto mark.
What I didn't like about the movie:
And well, it has some flaws of course. As most of the others said, the ending was too much ewwww. Viewers have been allergic to the ending of movies in airport since long. Those are tried so many times, you start yawning even at the moment when you sense that it's gonna happen. Also when the movie starts unfold, you kind-a start predicting what's gonna happen next. Some incidents appeared to be TOO amateurish. But the fact is that, the weight of entertainment you receive through-out is heavier enough to compensate for the flaws; and even the predicted ending brings a smile on your face; specially the moment the police officer starts singing the song to his boss; that really cracked me off.
