An attempt by director Anurag Basu to take his story telling abilities to a next level...Well did he succeed?? In conceptualising, narration and screenplay- Yes, he did. Well on the content part, it can be debated. Though I had gone with an "Open urban frame of mind", but I still could not relate to the exaggerated showcase of the reducing morals and ethos projected so unabashedly on the screen. It seems that all the talent churned out from the Bhatt camp are hell bent to portray and glorify the diminishing moral values in the Indian society and culture. True we are in a democracy where we have a right to express ourselves and be at our creative selves, but filmmakers must realize it comes with some responsibility attached. We are not doing any good to society with such casual projections of ethics and certainly the claims that we present “reality” itself needs a reality check. Indians must pray we don’t become like this even in the next few decades.
Without considering the moral policing aspect, the movie has a fresh narrative where different stories have been told as a cohesive uninterrupted version. There is no disconnect between them and the performances pep the pace up. If Dharmendra, Nafisa, Shiney, Shilpa are fine, Kaykay, Sharman and Kangana are good. But Irfaan Khan and Konkana Sen take the cake for enlightening the otherwise dull affair. Music was supposed to go with the screenplay, so its no point blaming Pritam for being unimpressive. The technical points are certainly the highlights of the movie. On the whole, a movie made for targeting the Niche audience of Metros & Overseas. Surprisingly even Overseas has given it thumbs down. Anurag can surely be better…
What I liked about the movie:
Narration, editing, cinematography...Irfaan Khan & Konkana Sen
What I didn't like about the movie:
