this is a convential "never seen before" type of film, sure it has couples, but it delves into the strengths and weaknesses of these relations, where as other multi-starers such as salaam-e-ishq only focused only on the problems of each character throughout the movie and made sure that in the end love conquered all. This movie fortnatley refrains from doing that. A wonderful, quirky comedy has been made
the six couples and the 12 characters are all miles apart in character and background. but the brilliance of the director Reema Katgi, and anurag kashyap's dialogues, connects them in a subtle
RAIMA SEN & KAY KAY MENON: this story is a mirror image of what is happening in India today, the idea of smaller families and marital privacy is presented in such a delicate and subtle way, that it lifts the story to a higher level. Both actors have already proven their worthiness in cinema, they do this yet again in the film, they are simply amazing.
SANDHYA MRIDUL & VIKRAM CHATWAL: this one is written with style, one can never guess the truth about vikram until he confesses his sexuality to sandhya. unlike other movies which make a complete mockery out of homosexuality, this is a mature approach that doesnt make u shake you head in disgust. Sandhya Mirdul is wonderful in her "modern girl" role. Vikram Chatwal is proficient, but he can be annoying at times.
SHABANA AZMI & BOMAN IRANI: a sensitive story on old age love, the scenes between the two are handled with so much care and prescision thatu cant help but smile. Boman Irani is outstanding yet again. It is nice to see Shabana in a comic role, she does full justice to it, especialy towards the end,her simple, pragmatic character will win the audience over like that!
AMISHA PATEL & KARAN KHANNA: this story provides the comic part of the movie, Karan is a shy, "in the closet" man, and Amisha is an extrovert, obsessed with hindi movies. Karan's portions about his sexuality and the films narrator create a sort of feeling that makes one pity the character. Karan Khanna impresses. Amisha Patel suits her role to the hilt. She carries it of well.
MINISSHA LAMBA & ABHAY DEOL: this is probably the only story in it which does not have a streak of seriousness in it. The idea of them as superheroes is clever, but slightly childish. but it works to an extent in a film like this. However after a while the portions between the two ten to get irritating. Both actors have just made an entrance into bollywood, the do pretty well despite a mediocre story.
DIA MIRZA, RANVIR SHOREY & ARJUN RAMPAL: this story is absent through most of the movie, and its re-entrance in the climax is justified but to bollywoodish for a heartfelt move like this. Dia looks pretty and acts well. Ranvir Shorey is hardly there. Arjun Rampal adds to the star value.
Finally, the music and its picturization is par excellence. The music is some of the best heard this decade, Vishal, Shekhar or anyother composer will find it difficult to outdo the duo.
What I liked about the movie:
the flashbacks of each character, the music, its choreography and the picturization.
What I didn't like about the movie:
a bit to immature at times
