SHAKESPEAREAN ROMEO JULIET with a flair of MOULIN ROUGE in VENICE. But SLB forgot, ROMEO JULIET was a successful LOVE STORY in terms of ROMEO's LOVE WAS RECIPROCATED BY JULIET. Its a BIG BIG Dissappointment especially when its coming from a director such as SLB. Having made brilliant movies, I believe there is one thing SLB should have mastered which he terribily failed at, and that is PEOPLE LIKE HAPPY ENDINGS. I guess i have to give it to SLB for decorating the sets to create VENICE, and approaching something new, but he terribly failed at understanding the momentum of his own film.
What I liked about the movie:
I liked how the movie was slowly going up in terms of momentum, and how SLB had tried to create sets that give you a feeling of Venice. And gives us the feeling of a CLASSIC, in modern times.
What I didn't like about the movie:
The worst part about it all is i could not understand how could SLB simply miss the fact that he is making movie for BOLLYWOOD, even though his approach is a WANNABE Hollywood. He should not forget that BOLLYWOOD audience likes HAPPY ENDINGS. AND WHEN THE MAIN HERO'S LOVE STORY IS UNSUCCESSFUL, then the movie is UNSUCCESSFUL PERIOD. The only reason why audience could have put up with all the flaws in the movie, is if they see ROMEO (RANBIR) gets his LOVE, now when that plot fails, then I DONT want to spend money to feel bad. MOREOVER the spirit of RANBIR throughout the movie was upbeat and optimistic about getting the love of his life. And when that spirit is killed, SLB killed the movie itself.
