i think don works because of its starcast , hollywood style direction and action scenes.and ofcourse the storyline.
same thing happen in the past with sholay , it got trashed by the critic and didn't even work in the theaters for few days,now its one of the biggest blockbusters of hindi cinema
they did the rite thing by remaking Don,the old version really needed a makeover,i think its was kinda slow paced and boring sometimes.
And the people seems to like it,the 1 million figure in ticket sales proves that.
