Ashutosh Gowarikar's epic saga, JODHAA AKBAR generated a lot of interest for those who watched the theatrical Trailer, and also a lot of expectations from those who have watched the magnum opus Lagaan - Once Upon a Time in India..., and the critically well-received, and, of course, well-made movie called Swades - We, the people. With THE onscreen pair of '06 from DHOOM:2, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing the respective roles of Jalaluddin Mohammed "Akbar" and JodhaaBai, and A. R. Rahman's grendeur touch in his music, the heat rises up. But does it raise the status of the movie after its release? Or is it too hot to handle? Let's See...
Just a few days ago I got my hands on a 3-Disc DVD of the movie, which has the movie split up into two discs, pre-intermission and post-intermission? Why, I really do not know, but since it isn't a DVD review, but that of a movie, it bacomes another story altogether. So let's talk about the movie, not the DVD. THE STORY:-
A love saga between the famous Emperor Jalaluddin Mohammed Akbar, and Rajput Princess Jodhaabai, a saga oft forgotten to be told in the history books, a saga of pure love between two diverse human beings...
A beautiful and romantic journey into the lives of two people, this movie not only awed me, but also touched my emotions, they the whole cast and crew have worked hard to let the emotions flow through the screen into the semipermeable manbranes of our skin, giving it goosebumps. And, of course, especially taking into the fact that period movies didn't interest me (until now), this movie had me going ga-ga over it.
What I liked about the movie:
Hate to admit it, but each and every aspect of the movie, ranging from the cast to the story, has been given explicit detail. And the songs! They are heavenly. The best of the lot will be Inn Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein, where Jodhaa and Akbar are bodily united. Watch out for it, as after a long time, I have seen an intimate scene as pure as pure can be, without a trace of sleaze of vulgarity in it! Top marks to Ashutosh Gowariker for delicately treating the song!
What I didn't like about the movie:
I just can't find anything out to criticize. Everything turns out to be so unexpected for me, as I'm the one who can predict what the next dialogue is going to be! I just can't find anything!!!!!
