Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy...
What to say? Just when you think they're going down the dumps as far as music is concerned, they whip up another great album to re-stranghten their trust in them.
And it's stange enough that nobody has even bothered to give a music review on this album.
Sigh! Guess I'll have to do the job.
Look guys, all of you know that HEYY BABYY has generated tremendous pre-release buzz even before the music release of the movie, and you know that the theatrical trailer is one of the hottest videos posted on the world-famous FLV website, YouTube.Com. So, naturally, I began searching for posters, and I found one here. And boy, was I happy for one moment when I read that Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonca were actually giving the music of this album. But I suddenly remembered JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM, SALAAM-E-ISHQ, and MARIGOLD, and my expectations dropped. However, while listening to the album, I was like, "Oh God! Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy are REALLY getting back into their grooves! Wow!" Since I've already told you guys a lot, let's get on with the review.
Now, first comes the title song, "Heyy Babyy," which is very high on bass, and well, not exactly addtictive, but it seriously grows on you. Neeraj Shridhar has done a good job with the song. And NO, it's not another TICKET TO HOLLYWOOD, which was a complete disaster (yuck!). So, rip the CD to your PC immediately, and download this song particularly to your MP3 player, if you have one that is.
Next comes "Dholna" which is an out-and-out romantic track, which, though sounds good, sounds like as if it's straight out of the 90's, but in bits and pieces. Anyways, nothing more to complain about the song. Okay, not so good.
Next comes "Mast Kalandar", which is a bit high on the ears. One downfall in the form of this song.
The GirlBand version of the title track is addictive, and a must-hear.
"Jaane Bhi De" is one typical SEL track which is funny, but feel-good. You'll like to hear to more than once.
But the real groove of SEL comes in the form of "Meri Duniya Tu Hi Re" which is actually the best track by far over here. Since I read the preview, I could easily identify this song as a lullaby. And oh, thank god, the lullaby is not so cliched. It's different, it's not funny, but it really takes you on a different worlde, especially when the singers go like OOOOOOOOOOOO, and so on. This is THE track in this album.
The remixes are a dampener though. All of them sound so bad, you can't bear with it anymore. EEP! I didn't expect WhoSane to dish out such bad remixes.
And as far as the remixes are concerned, the worst one comes in the form of "Jaane Bhi De". UGGGGGHHHH!
Well, then, barring the mixes, overall, it's a pleasant hear. Go buy the album right away. Forget abut JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM, HEYY BABYY rocks on most parts, and almost succeeds.
Good job SEL.
