Friends ! Get..Set..Rock ….say so the Superstars.
I am writing this line inspired from one of the song of “Jaan-E-Mann” itself to start the music review of this most awaited movie from Producer Sajid Nadiadwala & Debutant diector Shirish Kunder. And this line suits the album to the neck. Everyone related to this album are just SUPERSTARS. Be it its producer, the editor turned director or the leading trio Salman Khan-Preity Zinta-Akshay Kumar. And must mentionable the Music Director Anu Malik, Lyricist the legend Gulzaarsaab and all singers. . .
. .
But the one who raises above all these Superstar is SONU NIGAM. This album complates belongs to him as he sings four songs out of the 9 songs and shows various voice modulations. And I would also like to mention that these four songs of the album is its USP. A Romantic song, A Qawwali, A Sad Song and A totally Classic Song. More on each song a little later. . .
. . .
But before that let me tell one point that I noticed about Gulzaar Saab. He has a track record of setting a different trend always. Be it with makeup of actors for his own film (remember looks of Sunie Shetty with a strange moustache or Tabu with short hairs in Hututu or the ones in Maachis). In his lyrics also when you start thinking that the song is too classic with his selection of tough words like Marhoom, sabr etc. there comes an altogether easygoing English word suddenly. It was noticed with his last year hits also like in Bunty & Bubbly.eg. ‘Personal’ se sawaal karti hai…in Kajrare, etc…
Here also almost each song comes with these kind of surprise with use of words like ‘Dad’, ‘Future’, ‘Ignore’ in otherwise usual Hindi/Urdu lyrics. And it is a different and nice feeling since nowadays most of the songs are coming with complete english lines either as opening line or in between the song, like ‘Wheres the party tonight’, ‘Love you unconditionally’ etc.
. . .
Now about the album and its songs. Can you guess (if you havent listen to the album yet) who starts the opening lines of the first song of the album. If you said its Sonu Nigam after reading my above paragraphs then you are only partly right. Because It’s the ROCKSTAR Salman Khan narrating a couple of lines in Fanaa Shayari style…that too after a drum beats of Nagada style. It seems he is giving some important message to the nation on Radio. But then Sonu & Sadhna takes you to a long smooth ride for more than 7 minutes telling what they have learnt from their love story. Its such a lovely song. And “Humko Maloom Hai” that “Humko Maloom Hai” is going to be one of the top 3 songs of 2006. And it feels this song will be played in the movie in parts as the ride goes from various different high & low roads. Enjoy the promos of the song already on air till the movie releases.
. . .
Then comes the qawwali “Jaane Ke Jaane Na” started by Sukhvinder and the voiceover by Krishna, but then taken over by Sonu again. Gulzaar has writen nice tooty-footy shayari in his diary for this haragiri. This is a completely fun-filled song. Chances are that Anupam Kher will be highlight for this song as a Dwarf character. The club mix of this done by DJ Shane has nice effect on the original and makes you remember another qawwali by Sonu & Anu “Tumse Milka Dil ka” for “Main Hoon Na”.
. . .
The next again by Sonu Nigam is a slow and classy number “Ajnabi Shaher”. The song has Sonu’s melodious voice and Anu’s soulful soft music. But doesn’t have a capacity to become an instant hit among the masses and could not add any appeal for the movie.
. . .
As the next song starts, you feel its just another remix of first song, but soon after the “Humko Maloom Hai” signature tune Sonu Nigam starts with “Sau Dard Hai”. The best song of the Album. It could lend Sonu Nigam a handful of awards too. Starting lines has the feeling of “Nagme Hain, Shikve Hain” from “Yaadein”. And then the long stretcing of “Ek Tu Hi Nahin.ee…e…e…e…e” has the same kind of stretch as “Tanhayee..ee..e..e..”. But its brilliantly done and it’s a great composition from Anu malik, specially considering his recent bad patch. Suzanne’s voice as chorus adds to the grandeur feel. The Grove Mix by DJ Shane is also superb.
. . .
Till this time in album Sonu Nigam has already shown all kinds of his singing qualities in these first four songs. He takes a break now as other Superstars are telling him “Rang Jamake, Udh Jaana, Udh Jaana…BRO”. Kunal Ganjawala, Adnan Sami and Sunidhi Chauhan are singing this stage song. And you can’t heklp but chorus with them…Bro. the Club Mix is no different from the original…Only adds a couple of rap lines.
. . .
Can we accept the new singers after hearing the already proven Superstars, As some of the Indian Idol finalists are singing “Kubool Kar Le”. Lucky Idols Rahul Vaidya, Prajakta Shukre, Amit Sana, Monali Thakur get here a chance to work with their Judge Anu Malik and as we know these songs are choreopgraphed by the other judge Farah Khan. The third judge Sonu is being missed here as Anu has discluded him and in place of him brought Udit Narayan. One could wish instead of Udit, Anu Malik should have give a chance to the Indian Idon 2 winner Sandeep Acharya, whose voice and singing gesture is just like his Idon Udit Narayan. Any way the guys have done a good job here and have song well on the tune which is already familiar to those who have seen/heard the song “Sanam Tum Hampe Marte Ho' from the Movie “Wajood”.
. . .
On and all Anu Malik has returned with a bang after “Humko Deewana Kar Gaye” where he composed some nice songs like the tile song, Fanaa etc. but the lime light went to Himesh for the second version of Title song. After listening to Jaan-E-Mann people will surely wait desperately for his other forthcoming megaventures. ‘”Zindagi Rocks” is already rocking. The other one is J P Dutta’s Umrao Jaan starred by Aishwarya Rai & todays heartthrob Abhishek Bachchan and going by subject of the movie, it highly depends on its Music. So..Get..Set…And Rock the nation….Anu.
