Getting inspired by a well-made film is perfectly okay. But making a complete mess of that skillfully executed flick is simply unpardonable.

EK DIN 24 GHANTE takes its inspiration from German director Tom Tykwer's RUN LOLA RUN. Unfortunately, watching the desi adaptation is akin to flying in an aircraft in extreme turbulence!

Nandita Das shares an unstable relationship with her father. However, she finds solace in the arms of Rahul Bose, someone who cares for her and loves her dearly.

The story takes a turn when Rahul is threatened by a casino owner to clear the Rs. 20 lakhs he owes to the casino. Finding himself in a dilemma, Rahul calls Nandita to save his life.

To save the life of her beloved, Nandita gets the money out of her reluctant father, who in turn hires a hit-man behind his daughter.

Nandita has to run to save her boyfriend's life and also save her skin from the cops and the hit-man. Does she succeed in her mission?

A story like this had the potential to engage the viewer for the next two hours, but EK DIN 24 GHANTE just doesn't measure up to the expectations.

What's indeed surprising is that it has been directed by the same name that handled a sensitive subject with such ?n in JOGGERS' PARK. Unfortunately, director Anant Balani seems ill at ease directing this genre!

The film abounds in flaws…

Although the basic idea is intriguing, the way director Balani unfolds the saga is far from convincing. In fact, the film tends to test the patience of the viewer as it inches ahead.

Besides a far-from-convincing narrative, the ending of the film – which should've been the high point – is an absolute letdown, leaving no impact whatsoever. In fact, it's thanda to put it in filmi parlance!

Besides, there are very few thrilling moments in the film. The original scored because of the gripping and stimulating moments it had to offer, making the viewer involved in the goings-on completely, but in this case, boredom sets in after the first ten minutes itself.

Also, none of the performances really manage to stand out. Nandita Das tries hard to lend credence to her role, but doesn't really impress. Rahul Bose looks dispassionate and goes through his part mechanically. Kabir is strictly okay.

On the whole, EK DIN 24 GHANTE neither caters to the intelligentsia, nor the hoi polloi. At the box-office, a poor fate seems inevitable!
