P.K. Art Creations' GURU MAHAAGURU is a lost and found fare, with the revenge angle thrown in.
Brothers Ajay (Mukul Dev) and Gautam (Ashutosh Rana) get separated in childhood. But their aim is the same – to trace their father's killer.
C.B.I. Officer Vijay Verma (Naseeruddin Shah) is entrusted the task of tracking down a dreaded criminal Crocodile (Om Puri). However, Verma infiltrates the underworld, so that he can lay a trap for Crocodile and arrest him.
Due to reasons, Ajay and Gautam start believing that Verma is their father's killer, but the fact is that Crocodile is the actual culprit. How they settle scores with Crocodile forms the remainder.
GURU MAHAAGURU is an old-fashioned fare that relies on the oft-repeated commercial ingredient – action. Also, the film abounds in clich? In fact, the incidents in the film are as old as the hills.
Bappi Lahiri's music is another sore point, with the songs lacking freshness. Cinematography (Ashok Jamuar) is good.
Naseeruddin Shah is just about okay. Om Puri goes over the top in a few sequences. Mukul Dev is passable. Ashutosh Rana is as usual.
On the whole, GURU MAHAAGURU is too routine a fare, with bleak prospects at the box-office.
