Damania (Prem Chopra) and Vardhaman (Kader Khan) are underworld Dons operating from Gujarat and Mumbai respectively. Because of their intense rivalry and the bad blood between them, both have plans to eliminate each other. The Supreme Leader of the underworld gang, Trikal Anna (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) orders them to forget their enmity and be not only friends but also relatives by getting their children married. Reluctantly they agree.Vardhaman sends his son Vicky (Monish Behl) to Gujarat to see Damania's daughter.

Raja (Govinda) a small time crook, after being sacked from his job is on his way from Mumbai, to his native place Bihar, on foot since he did not have money to go by train. As luck would have it, Raja gets a lift from Vicky on the way. In spite of Raja's repeated objections, Vicky drinks heavily while driving. His car meets with an accident and falls into a river. Damania's men waiting for Vicky on the other side jump into the river and save Raja instead of Vicky, believing his to be Damania's would be son-in-law. They then take 'Vicky' to Damania's house. After re-gaining consciousness, Raja realizes that Damania thinks he is Vicky. He decides to settle down there and take advantage of opportunity given to him by God. Damania's daughter Priety (Priety Zinta) does not like Raja in the beginning, but ultimately they fall in love.

Vardhaman is told by Damania on the phone that their children have agreed to marry. All are very happy, but one day, Vardhaman is shocked when he sees Vicky, his son entering the house in torn clothes and limping. He tells his father that he could not reach Gujarat, as he was lying unconscious for many days after the accident. Vardhaman is shocked to know that an imposter is living at Damania's house. Immediately they leave for Gujarat with guns and bodyguards to kill Raja.
