One of the greatest entertainment forces of the 90s -- David Dhawan and Govinda -- are back in KUNWARA. From TAAQATWAR (David's first film) to HASEENA MAAN JAAYEGI, the combo has delivered hits one after the other, barring BANARASI BABU. KUNWARA, their latest release, is an acid test for both the names, besides Urmila Matondkar, who plays the leading lady.
Govinda and Urmila were teamed for the first time in HUM TUM PE MARTE HAIN, which was rejected at the box-office window. Not many people remember the film (rightly so!), which explains why a lot of people feel that this pair will be seen together for the first time in KUNWARA. Professionally, the three names -- Govinda, Urmila and David -- have been going through a rough patch and have pinned a lot of hopes on this film.
KUNWARA is a story of an engaging yet compassionate young man Raju (Govinda), in love with Urmila (Urmila Matondkar), who dangerously enters into a secret bond with Sharmila (Naghma), for humanitarian reasons. But the world refuses to accept him. KUNWARA is a story of a light-hearted boy who can come out of any situation and believes the tougher the barrier, the stronger he can get.
KUNWARA co-stars Kader Khan, Om Puri, Johny Lever and Indra Kumar. The film has music by Adesh Shrivastav and lyrics by Sameer. The film has eight songs in all:
'Na Hira Na Moti' (singers: Sonu Nigam and Hema Sardesai), picturised on Govinda and Urmila.
'Yeh Ladki Jawaan' (singers: Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik), which has been shot at the picturesque locales of New Zealand.
'Urmila Re Urmila' (singers: Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik), picturised on the lead pair.
'Meri Chamakchalo' (singers: Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik), picturised in Bangalore.
'Mehndi Lagake' (singers: Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik), which has been shot at Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad.
'Jab Ladka Ho Kunwara' (singers: Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik), which is synonymous with fun and grandeur associated with a wedding.
'Sun Mere Sasure' (singers: Sonu Nigam and Vinod Rathod), picturised on Govinda, Om Puri and Kader Khan. Here, Govinda and Om Puri are engaged in a verbal fight and Kader Khan joins Govinda to win against Om Puri).
'Main Kunwara Aa Gaya' (singer: Sonu Nigam), shot again on foreign shores with a bevy of beautiful dancers.
