Bhiku (Munsif Qureshi) is a poor man who lives with his wife, Komulika (Ruhi Resham Khan), in a village dominated by a tyrant thakur (Dhanraj Shah). The thakur rapes and kills at whim and is not accountable to anybody. One day, Bhiku meets Satyaprakash from the neighboring village. Satyaprakash reveals to him that his village was similarly dominated by a tyrant and that he (Satya) had killed him. He tells the aghast Bhiku that he is on his way to a distant village where resides a man who would give him justice, All that he has to do is get there and ring the bell.

Bhiku organises a revolt against the thakur but all his co-conspirators are killed. The thakur even carries away his wife Komulika. Shattered, Bhiku trudges to the distant village that Satya had mentioned. He reaches there and rings the bell. The watchman comes out and tells him: “Abhi to raat hai.” End of story.
