Raja Menon and Pratap Raju are the promoters of Bandra West Productions. It was incorporated as a private limited in 2002 and the film BAS YUN HI is Bandra West's maiden film project. The focus is to produce medium-budget feature-films targeted at the urban Indian and NRI audiences and the production house is also involved in ad film production.
From the director's desk
"BAS YUN HI is a relatable commercial, yet non-formulaic Hindi film. It is an attempt to really represent today's urban Indian youth.
"I believe that the film has truly managed to capture the essence and bonding that is typical of any such group of friends. The fun that we all had while making BAS YUN HI shows through in the film.
"BAS YUN HI was shot in an incredible 28-day single schedule, in Bangalore, with live sound. Work shopping with the actors for a month-and-a-half helped them get into the script, their characters and form personal bonds with each other. Working with this cast and crew has been a really incredible experience."
The synopsis
BAS YUN HI mirrors 10 days in the lives of a real group of urban Indian youth, their relationships, issues, lifestyle etc., with a storyline that makes for a very funny 10 days.
Chef/cafeé owner Kabir [Sameer Malhotra], his oh-so-spiritual girl-friend Saraswati [Sandhya Shetty], the feminist Sona [Tannishtha Chatterjee], stock broker Rohan [Rajiv Gopalakrishnan], his financial analyst fiancée Tara [Parmita Katkar] and assistant director-prankster Aditya [Purab Kohli], who brings into the picture the bubbly, full of life model and actress Veda [Nandita Das] to play a prank on his best friend.
The action begins when Aditya accidentally finds Rohan's much discussed 'kundli' and in it a description of the girl he is destined to marry. This description does not remotely resemble Tara, Rohan's fiancée.
Aditya organizes for an accidental meeting between Rohan and Veda (who he makes up to fit the girl in the 'kundli'). What follows are a series of 'super-coincidental' meetings between the two, which Aditya is filming. The story goes through many interesting turns before reaching its resolution.
