Pooja Bhatt is back after a sabbatical, her latest presentation as a producer being SUR – THE MELODY OF LIFE, directed by Tanuja Chandra and presented by Pritish Nandy Communications. The making of the film has been kept low-key, but Pooja is getting geared up to promote the film as and when the release date draws nearer.

SUR – THE MELODY OF LIFE stars Lucky Ali in the main lead and going by the story of the film, the actor cum singer seems the right choice to portray the part of a music teacher.

Vikramaditya Singh (Lucky Ali) is the visionary of a music school, which is a place where anyone with spark, with raw potential to become a musician is polished by the unconventional and stunning teacher to some day become a sparkling diamond in the world of music.

Vikramaditya, who is a famous singer himself, is looking, searching, longing to find a great student and make a star out of that student. Someone who will surpass him, so that the world can praise the student as Vikramaditya's most worthy graduate and his greatest success. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to find such a student.

He stumbles across Tina Marie (Gauri Karnik), who has a divine, silky voice, as she sings a prayer in a church. Since that moment, Vikramaditya takes it upon himself to steal her away from her small-town Christian environment to his school, where she showers her with all the attention and single-mindedness of teaching that he's capable of.

As Vikramaditya goes on to chisel Tina's talent more and more, she, already in awe of him, falls completely in love with him. Slowly, Tina emerges as a brilliant singer, already a star.

When Vikramaditya realises this, he starts feeling jealous. He had always had this image of himself in his mind, of a generous, giving teacher who wanted his students to surpass him but the moment he found someone who was indeed better than him, he couldn't take it. And from here begins the fall of Vikramaditya.

Vikramaditya begins to compete with Tina. He starts to break her confidence. He becomes a destroyer. He agrees to let her sing with him for his new album, but sabotages her performance by dominating and overpowering her. For the first time, she finds that can't sing.

Vikramaditya sinks to his lowest when he steals one of her tunes, calling it his own in the recording of his album. After that, unable to bear Tina's hurt eyes, he begins shouting at her for failing him, by failing to perform well. Completely shattered, Tina leaves the school and goes back home.

Amidst jubilant celebrations for the record-breaking sales of Vikramaditya's album, the biggest hit of which is the 'stolen melody', he faces his own ugliness. He gazes into his own dark heart and sees what he has done. And he goes back to Tina's town, with the intention of brining her back to his school where he will complete the job he had left unfinished.

But to his great shock, Vikramaditya discovers a completely changed Tina, who has left her sister's bar where she used to work and is living in the church where she is undergoing rigorous training to become a nun. Vikramaditya pursues her everywhere requesting her, even begging her to sing. She tries to resist him as much as she can, but he's not easy to resist.

Tina finally relents, but partially. She agrees to sing only once with him in the concert that the music company has arranged for him. Just seconds before he is to go on stage with Tina, Vikramaditya disappears. The management panics as no one can contact him anywhere, and to buy time they ask Tina to sing, to keep the anxious crowd down.

And Tina sings like a beauty. Faraway, in a lone car parked somewhere, Vikramaditya listens to her awesome performance on his car radio. Tears of happiness start filling up in his eyes. The audience falls in love with her and her enormous success becomes his success and his joy.

Vikramaditya breaks down because he has finally produced a student more brilliant than him, a student who outshines him, and leaves him far behind.

SUR – THE MELODY OF LIFE has music by M.M. Kreem. It co-stars Simone Singh, Achint Kaur, Ehsaan Khan, Divya Dutta and Harsh Vasishth.
