'Zinda Dil' - you read the title and wonder what are the music directors of countless romantic flicks doing in this movie, which on the face valure, doesn't seem to have much scope for any love'n'mushy tracks !! Yes, we are talking about Nadeem Shravan, who off late have not been in that top form as they were about a few months back. This Mohan Baggad movie, which stars Abbas (Duniya Dilwalon Ki (dubbed) and Ansh) and one film old Ashima Bhalla (KC Bokadia's Pyaar Zindagi Hai) who also recently appeared in a dance number - 'Nazar Nazar Mein Haal Dil Ka' (Hathyar), has the supporting star cast of Sharad Kapoor, Om Puri, Gulshan Grover and Johny Lever. Sameer writes the lyrics.
To be very frank, there is no single number in Zinda Dil that can be termed chart-buster at the very onset. Though, the overall effect of the album is kinda OK, it at best settles as purely functional. Just listen to 'Ek Massom Sa Chehra' and 'Ikrar Ho Na Jaaye' and you may say that "Ya, it's fine, but then I have heard this in a zillion other compositions before !! So what's new". Well, this is what we too say. So here we have Sameer going ga-ga yet again for a 'Massom Sa Chehra' and Nadeem Shravan make Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik go through the routine of singing the same stuff in the same way. And then people say that what's wrong with the Hindi Music Industry !! Same holds true for the 'Ikraar-Pyaar' logic in 'Ikraar Ho Na Jaaye' that starts off exactly in the same way as 'Na Na Karte Pyaar Main Kar Gayi' from Dhadkan. In this number, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik in their respective solos are worried that what would happen in case they happen to reciprocate the feelings of their loved and fall in love. Yup, they are scared about this and want us to believe the same !!
Next, when all is set for the reciprocation and 'dil vil' meeting each other, the 'saajan' is back home in 'Mera Saajan Aa Gaya'. So first they are happy about this and croon excitingly and some time later they are sad about something and so the sad version for the same appears. The former has both Mohd. Aslam and Shreya Goshal happy about this but in the latter version, it is only Mohd. Aslam who feels like this. Whatever the feelings of the singers here, one thing is true - both the tracks are plain boring !!! 'Aage Aage Tum' has Alka Yagnik singing for a naughty young woman whos is out to cheer up her lover and does well on her part. Though the number turns out to be yet another routine track.
To add insult to the injury comes the assorted parody of the old tracks from the 60's, 70's and then some latest ones, that have been manipulated in such rough and a hush-hush way that you really do not want to hear this version again. Sung by Shabbir Kumar and Sarika, this one is a strict 'No-No'. As if all this was not enough, a special attraction of a bunus track is also included in the album. Guess guess, what it could be !! What we are offered is a Kumar Sanu Alka Yagnik number from Indian Babu - 'Mere Sang Sang Naach Sajana'. Now do you even remember this song !!!
Nothing much can be said about this album that just has one or two routine tracks that are somewhat passable.
A downer for Nadeem Shravan.
