First look at the promos of ' Tezaab - The Acid Of Love ' and one starts wondering if the movie is yet another in the series of sleaze-centric movies of 2004. One doesn't even expect much from the music of the film, but has a different story to tell after hearing this album composed by Roop Kumar Rathod that has lyrics by Shakeel Azmi. All doubts about this product by writer-director Shakeel Noorani are laid to rest as ' Tezaab ' that has a fresh star cast of Ex-Miss India World 2002 Shruti Sharma and Mighty Khan can claim to have some decent music, that was not much expected to start with!
The album actually takes a bottom-up approach with the songs getting better and better from the first to the last song. There are just four songs in the album with two getting repeated. The first one is a passion filled title song ' Tezaab Se '. Sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan, it is a fair attempt at trying to be one of those zippy sensual tracks but manages to be just about average. One expected somewhat more from a title song of a steamy movie.
Kay Kay changes the mood of the album with a sad love solo ' Kaash Ye Pyaar Na Hota '. Roop Kumar Rathod is in his self as a composer as the track has a Ghazal feel around it. It is about a man ruining the moment he fell in the love and is wondering if the life could have been much less troublesome and uncomplicated if there was no love! Lyrics by Shakeel Azmi are an asset in the number that is one of those that may not be sung around but can be heard in isolation. Shreya Ghoshal too does a solo of the same song but it is Kay Kay's version that is more impressive due to the subtle rendition by him.
Roop Kumar Rathod saves the best for him when he sings ' Aao Chale Hum Kahin '. A sober love solo that impresses as soon as you hear it once, it is again of the kind that can be heard repeatedly in dim lights over a candle light dinner. Music is soft throughout and Rathod does very well here to use minimal instruments to maximum effect and keeping his voice in low pitch. One wonders why this song, which also gets repeated, is not yet on the air still and the music company is not making much efforts to publicize the album as the songs are definitely at least above average.
Last song in the album is ' Suroor Hai ' by Sukhwinder Singh and Hema Sardesai that depicts the passion play by means of lyrics, picturization, music and rendition. Again quite an impressive hearing, it is in the league (and style) of Sukhwinder's earlier hit ' Nasha Hi Nasha Hai ' from the namesake album that was released 4 years back. Melody is good yet again and if the song was placed in a movie with a known star cast and banner, it could have been in the popularity charts by now. While Sukhwinder Singh gives his best to the number, Hema looks a bit out of place in trying to give that 'extra' bit of punch to the song! Nevertheless the song still holds good in entirety.
Roop Kumar Rathod's tunes are not path-breaking but are still likeable and worthy enough for a movie of this genre. ' Tezaab ' is a short and sweet album that has a potential of doing at least an average business, if promoted rightly.
