In past five months or so, there has hardly been a day
when there hasn't been a promo of a Mahesh Manjrekar
movie. Movies like 'Tera Mera Saath Rahen', 'Ehsaas'
and 'Pitaah' came and went, but none of them could
create even the slightest of ripples at the box office
- let alone matching the success of Vaastav and
Kurukshetra or attain the critical acclaim of Astitva.
But of all these inconsistencies, there was something
that always remained consistent - the music of all
these flicks was NEVER of a hot quality. Pick any of
these movies and one will observe that apart from
'Tera Mera Saath Rahen' and 'Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta
Hai' which had a few good tracks at least, there
wasn't a single movie that has boasted of an excellent
sound track.
SET Pictures present PKNJ that marks the debut of
hotshot model Diwakar Pundir. Sonali Bendre who has
earlier acted in Mahesh's Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta
Hai and Tera Mera Saath Rahen comes for the third time
round. PKNJ is one of those rare movies in which even
the title song doesn't generate much of an interest.
There has been an attempt to create a melody but the
composer Milind Sagar doesn't succeed much here. Sonu
Nigam, Anuradha Paudwal, Pt. Ajay Pohankar and
Vivienne Poccha just carry on routinely in this Shyam
Anuragi written number.
'Unke Labon Pe' and 'Kabhie Socha Na Tha Maine' have
been surely designed keeping Sonu Nigam in mind. Both
the numbers have the trademark Sonu
Nigam touch. These two tracks are the saving grace of
PKNJ and manage to sustain some interest.
'Unke Labon Pe' has Sunidhi Chauhan and newcomer
Santripti giving company to Sonu and is a melodious
love song. Lyrics by Shyam Anuragi are good as well in
this Milind Sagar number. Ditto for 'Kabhie Socha Na
Tha Maine' by Sonali Vajpayee which is romantic again
although it sounds so much like a private album
number. Anand Raj Anand (ARA) composes and writes this
number
'Aaja Meri Bahon Mein' is composed in a South Indian
passionate number kind. Sonu Nigam and newcomer
Saraswati Phukan sing this duet. Nothing extraordinary
about this track by ARA that has lyrics by Praveen
Bhardwaj. The number fails to generate enough heat and
is a letdown. Milind Sagar's composition 'Nazarein Mil
Jaati' is a romantic number sung by Sonu Nigam and
Chitra. Another 'Just OK' number that has those
oft-repeated lyrics by Shyam Anuragi. They go like
'Nazarein Mil Jaati Hai, Pyaar Ho Jaata Hai !!!'. Hey
guys !! So what's new in this...everyone says the same
!!!
Welcome to Snacks break....'Tere Bin Koi Bhi Pal' is
ON. Atul Kale sings it so flat that one just can't
wait for the song to be over. Though the lyrics by
Praveen Bhardwaj are praiseworthy, the ordinary
composition by ARA and even more dull singing make a
complete mish-mash of the track The singer needs to
polish his singing skills to a large extent to get
that 'dard' feeling which he has tried hard to get but
in vain in this number.
'Raaste Yahan' is about aims and ambitions and is
again just about passable. Sadhna Sargam and Babul
Supriyo render this number written by V.K.Mehta and
composed by ARA. 'Ho Jaata Hai Ye Pyaar' is a
conventional song, sung even more conventionally by
Anuradha Paudwal. Praveen Bhardwaj and ARA too are of
little help in helping it's cause. Another dud !!!
The music of PKNJ has somewhat better musical score
than some of the earlier Mahesh Manjrekar's movies. It
is meant to be a musical love story (a genre that
Mahesh Manjrekar is touching for the first time), but
it still doesn't have the kind of punch that can
generate enough heat. Agreed that an attempt has been
made to have a consistent mood of romance throughout
the album, but then ultimately you land up saying that
"Yaar..dum nahi hai !!!"
