There are big movies that are always in news. There are also small movies that are in news, either due to their theme, treatment or controversy! 'Naam Gum Jaayega' belongs to none of these two categories. Neither the star cast nor the people associated with the movie are hot in the Bollywood circles. To add to the misery, the makers (Suresh Pai and Shaila Pai) too haven't made any attempt so far to create any buzz around the movie. The result is that NGJ, starring Rakesh Bapat ( Wrong Number, Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya ) and Dia Mirza ( RHTDM, Dum, Tumsa Nahi Dekha ), and directed by Amol Shetge (whose directorial venture Gunaah sank without a trace) is one of those movies that are hardly noticed within or outside the film fraternity. The publicity of compositions by Anand Milind (who compose for a full fledged album after a break) put to lyrics by Praveen Bhardwaj has been 'thanda' so far and one picks up the album with not much expectations.
Opening track ' Hamein Tumse Hai Pyaar Kitna ' reinforces your belief that there is something run of the mill on the cards. This zillionth version of 'T-Series' brand 80's style love song by Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan is so routine that it threatens to put you to sleep. Lyrics are so average that you turn your head the other side and simply ignore the number. Very typical. And even more typical is the standard ' Instrumental ' that makes an appearance after a couple of songs.
Comes next ' Kabhi Ye Na Poochna ' by the same singers and after the very first line you wonder if the album was literally composed a decade or so back. Music of this supposedly 'romantic number' is so much attached to the past that you get thinking if today's audience are still receptive to such tracks. There is nothing wrong with the overall arrangement of the number but the trouble lies with the style, which is simply outdated. It is one thing to relive the melody while something different by not changing with times.
Surprise surprise - Shreya Ghoshal gets a higher billing than Udit Narayan in ' Hai Sama Pyar Ka ', and there is no excuse too that this is because she sings the opening lines as it is Udit who does so. Nevertheless, this is one track that is more listenable than the earlier two and is a pleasant composition overall. This could be well due to the change in the female vocals as they were very predictable when Anuradha Paudwal was behind the mike. The sugar coated melodious number is definitely livelier and is some reason to continue listening to the latter numbers.
You smile with appreciation as soon as ' Teri Palkein Jo Uthi ' begins, as the quality of the album seems to be improving with every number. Babul Supriyo is at his charming best in this romantic solo that may not make it to the top of the charts but keeps up your spirits in its entire duration. This is the number where Anand Milind show what they are capable of and one wonders why the number has been placed after so many other tracks. A good track that suits Rakesh Bapat's love boy image!
' Tumse Milke ' by Suresh Wadkar and Sadhna Sargam is back to boredom as it is lackluster, doesn't have any appeal whatsoever and the experienced vocals too do not help the cause much. A drag track, it is simply boring. ' Us Ladki Pe Dil Aaya Hai ' is the concluding track that brings back the 'hit jodi' of Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal. No, they do not relive the old magic but at least manage to make the song stay afloat. One of those average songs with typical lyrics that do not make your heart beat increase but do not cause you much pain either!
Music of Naam Gum Jaayega is a bumpy ride that jumps from being plain boring to mediocre to a couple of well-composed tunes. The prospects of the album to be immensely popular are very bleak due to a non-happening title, unknown banner, zero buzz and shaky star cast. At the music stores, it may just about manage to break even, provided the music company publicizes this album with as much vigor as they do for any other big budget movie.
