There are certain movies that deserve to be better known amongst the lovers of quality cinema. ' My Brother Nikhil ' is one of them, that inspite of a spirited effort had to wait for a big production (Yash Raj Films) to be finally noticed and readied for release. While the most random movies sometimes get heavily hyped, movies like ' My Brother Nikhil ' (unfortunately) need to be backed up more strongly to be noticed. A Four Front Films production, MBL has Sanjay Suri, Vicky Tejwani, Onir & Raj Kaushal as the joint producers while story, screenplay and direction is handled by Onir himself. With Sanjay Suri playing the main protagonist Nikhil as the brother of Juhi Chawla, the rest of the starcast is the youth brigade comprising of Purab Kohli, Shayan Munshi, Sujoy Ghosh (director of Jhankaar Beats), Dipannita Sharma and Peeya Rai Choudhary. Victor Bannejee and Lillette Dubey play Nikhil's parents. Viveck Philip is the music director while Amitabh Varma writes the lyrics.
First 5 minutes into the album and you know that you are going to have a sentimental time hearing the album. ' Le Chale ' is one of the Top 5 numbers one would have heard in 2005 so far. Brilliant rendition by Shaan conveys the point again that he is the best when there is a need for a soft pop number in a Bollywood movie. He expresses emotions in a subtle manner and yet there is a hammer strong impact on your emotions. Amitabh Verma's lyrics are sheer poetry while Viveck Philip's extraordinary tune forms the backbone of the track. KK does his rendition for the same number and is further followed by Sunidhi Chauhan . Needless to say, all three seasoned performers are at their best. Hear it to believe it! Your heart will just go with the flow of the number that also appears as a short instrumental . A brief English version of ' Le Chale ' and a soft instrumental (with piano and violin) make ' Le Chale ' a simply irresistible number.
Remember ' Sama Ye Suhana ' from Juhi Chawla and Kumar Gaurav's ' Goonj '. ' Kabhi Main Naa Chaoon Koyi Khushi ' is reminiscent of the same soft melody that makes you call for a nice'n'sweet bonfire party to be thrown in. A youth track, you just need a guitar and a group of friends to get started on the number. Another winner in a row!
' Chodo Na Mujhe ', the same song that featured in ' Rules – Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula ' makes an appearance in MBL as well. With original music by Sandesh Shandilya and lyrics by Subrat Sinha, this 'little slower' version doesn't do any harm to the flow of the album so far and only helps in adding value. Ditto for ' Aa Bhi Jaa ' from ' Sur ' by Lucky Ali that is included to make the album a complete sentimental affair. Do we really need to talk about this excellent track!
Vishal Shekhar's ' Sapno Mein Aake Chura Jaaye ' from ' Shaadi Ka Laddoo ', the music of which was sadly ignored, too gets a place for itself here. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, it is a soft pop number about a girl's dreams for her prince charming. Another pleasant track in continuation! However ' Aaja Mere Dildaar ' by Sunidhi seems a misfit here because of its theme and placement. The song is a nice hearing but in the flow of the album, the choice doesn't seem relevant.
Another neglected (but a touching composition) makes this album one great journey. ' Mere Sapne ' from 'Mitr – My Friend ' by Kavita Krishnamurthy is a sad (yet immensely likeable) track that touches the strings of your heart. Soft music at its best, it holds your attention throughout and never once does become a drag.
' My Brother Nikhil ' is for every age group to be heard. Sheer simplicity and honesty of effort makes MBL a worthwhile album. In spite of the fact that there are just a couple of original tracks with some instrumentals to support, the assorted tracks from other movies make MBL an immensely likeable affair.
Go for it. If not anything else, ' Le Chale ' will make your day!!
