Sahara One Motions Pictures present 'Inteqam', supposedly a Hindi version of Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone starrer Bollywood blockbuster ' Basic Instinct ', that was a huge hit across the globe. 'Desi' version, that was launched with great hype about a year back, is surprisingly having an extremely low key and a hurried release. Even more surprising is the fact that in spite of having Pankaj Parashar at the director's seat, who has handled projects like Jalwa, Chaalbaaz, Rajkumar, Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge amongst others in the past, the publicity has been extremely poor. Agreed that the lead starcast with Manoj Bajpai (inspite of a National award to his credit for Pinjar ), Isha Kopikar and Nethra Raghuraman ( Bhopal Express, Thakshak ), doesn't really make distributors jump with joy before the release. But a bold theme (that explores sexuality), especially in today's times when such themes are widely accepted, could have been the USP of the movie, which if highlighted in a better way and more aggressively, could help in pulling audiences in hundreds. Instead, the makers have opted for a hurried release with just about a week's gap between the music release and movie release and exactly 15 days of very average promotion. With music by Anand Milind (who have a mediocre ' Naam Gum Jaayega ' behind them) and lyrics by Jalees Sherwani and Rashid Khan, the prospects on the music front too do not seem bright either. That's the reason why one picks up the album with minimal hopes.
Anand Milind's one time favorite Poornima ( Sarkaeo Lo Khatia - 'Raja Babu', Sona Kitna Sona Hai - 'Hero No. 1' ) makes an appearance after a long time with ' Chanak Chanak ', an ordinary item number that has been shot in poor lights, has average choreography and dull lyrics. One of the most uninspired item songs to have arrived in Bollywood in months, it is a quick skip. And do you care any more for listening to stuff like ' qatil-jawaani-deewani ' ?
Another ignored singer Sapna Mukherjee tries to sing seductive on the lines of ' shole badan ke ' and some more related features with ' Armaan Dil Ke ', which may have been rejected even by the 80's audience. A song that can be equally ignored!
' Tan Se Jo Chunari Sarak Gayi Re - Sabki Nazaria Badal Gayi Re ' - Omigosh! Is your toddler listening to this one? Keep away from his reach as this is strictly injurious to mind. You can have one such number, possibly two but three in a row becomes quite a lot. Nope, but this is unfair on part of talented Richa Sharma to even lip synch to such a bad number. Ideally one would have wanted to pull out the CD at this juncture itself, but professional compulsion forces us to review the album in totality!
Title song ' Inteqam ' arrives at this juncture and it is more of an instrumental rather than a song. Thank goodness for this because one wonders how would have the song seemed if there were any lyrics in this number as well. One already has many horror stories to tell after the first three songs and won't really be interested in any more ordeal.
' Ishq ' has gone through multiple iterations already with it being ' kameena ' (Shakti) to ' kambakth ' (Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya) to ' tezaab ' (Julie) and many more other versions. Now it is the turn of it becoming ' sarfira ' (one hopes the person who coined the word 'ishq' doesn't hear this!) with ' Ishqa Sarfira '. KK and Sadhna Sargam are completely disinterested in the proceedings and even Anand Milind seem to have lost interest by this stage.
Suprise surprise - but after a few 'This-Doesn't-Make-Any-Sense-To-Me' kind of numbers, there is a ' Holi ' number by Soumya Raoh and Udit Narayan (look at the ordering of credits!), that has a flavor of anything but 'Holi'. There is some strange mix of Western and Indian music that just doesn't gel at all and the song ends up making a mockery of itself. To make matters worse comes some horrifying rendition by Soumya Raoh as ' Ab Waqt Ki Aahat ' that confuses itself by trying to select between a narration, song or an instrumental. Ultimately it lands nowhere and with it takes away listener's interest completely.
Inteqam is simply avoidable!
