What exactly does one expect from an album that goes
by the name 'Ek Hindustani' - an overdose of patriotic
numbers that talk about 'Mera Bharat Mahaan'. But hey
surprises, surprises - Ek Hindustani isn't just about
this. It has got a few romantic-melodious ones, a
ched-chad track, a banjaara number, mandatory
dard-e-judaau
number, even a sad love song and of course a patriotic
number. A little long in the making, Ek Hindustani
still manages not to have a jaded look and the product
doesn't
seem to be dated. Probably the producers have re-shot
the songs or fresh locations have been chosen -
whatever be the case. Directed by Tinnu Anand and
produced by
Amar Sharma, Vivek Arts Ek Hindustani has music by
Anand Raj Anand and Daboo Malik and has lyrics by
Anand Bakshi and Praveen Bhardwaj.
Combo of Daboo Malik and Praveen Bhardwaj come
together for just one number - 'Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne
Lag'. Does this sound a bell? Now, don't get alarmed
and
confuse it with the track in Hrithik starrer - AMALL.
This track is a typical T-series music bank number by
Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan. The tune is
reminiscent of
the countless ones from the early 90's and there isn't
anything great about it !! Talk of being mushy and the
song will fit the bill !! Sonu Nigam croons the sad
version of the
same track and the result is still the same.
There are at least two more absolute love tracks in
the movie (and the best among the lot) - 'Chori Chori
Dil Diya Tha' and 'Mohabbat Ko Hum Chhod De'. Though
there isn't
anything too superb about these numbers that may woo
audiences in hordes - still it is nice to see somewhat
OK tracks in an actioner like this. Former by Udit
Narayan and
Alka Yagnik is a bhelpuri of many earlier romantic
songs and the later number is also sung by the duo.
Though one can say that there is some freshness in the
lyrics of this
number. But what one sorely misses in these numbers is
any lavish production values or some good
choreography. Locations too aren't much impressive !!
'Sone Waale Neend Se Jaage' is designed as a
masti-se-bharpoor track but fails miserably. It fails
to arouse any curiosity which is expected from a
number like this.Sonu
Nigam, Alka Yagnik and Anand Raaj Anand seem to be
sleep walking through the entire rendering of the
number and do not contribute much. A DUD !! Ramshankar
and
Rajlakshmi come together to croon - 'Yaaron Ka Dil tod
Ke' - a song about how is one feeling when the loved
one has gone away - obviously, how will one feel after
having a
'toota-hua-dil' !!! A screechy number by all means -
it jarrrrrrs !!
Ya, so we have been expecting a deshbhakti geet by now
- it is present in the form of 'Ye Fauji Jung Mein
Jeeta' by Tinnu Anand (omigaaawd !!!) and Anand Raaj
Anand. A
rough and tough number, it is about making the
citizens aware about their responsibilities as a
conscious Indian. It is about telling them that
"Look...the soldier on the front
has been doing so much for the motherland - what have
you been doing". 'Chalo Achcha Judaa Ho Jaate Hai' by
Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy is a roothna
manana
song - the kind that used to be popular in 80's. Again
a very average number that may not take Ek Hindustani
to the top of the charts.
Udit Narayan croons 'Dilruba Nakhrewali' - a ched chad
number. Don't expect much from this number - there
isn't anything to cheer about either !! Lyrics too
aren't anything
extraordinary and the song barely manages to fill in
the gaps.
In totality, one isn't sorely disappointed by the
outcome of Ek Hindustani as nothing was expected in
the first place itself. We won't blame the number of
years this movie
has taken for the disappointing music as this year
only we witnessed 'Hum Tumhaare Hai Sanam' which also
took 6 years to be made but still had many hit tracks.
It's all
about how good compositions are done for a movie and
presented in a better way.
