Salim, who gave Rani Mukherjee her first break in ' Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat ' and made a few medium budget action movies in the mid and late 90s, is back with ' Chand Sa Roshan Chehra '. This time around he launches his nephew Samir Aftab along with Tamanna who also makes her debut. With direction by Shahab Shamsi, music by Jatin Lalit and lyrics by Sameer, the initial songs that are on the air and the movie's title give an impression of a romantic musical love story.
Udit Narayan is the male voice for all the songs while Alka Yagnik and Sunidhi Chauhan take turns for the female voice. First song in the album, ' Aage Aage Chahat Chali ', is a solo by Udit Narayan and justifies the stand that Jatin Lalit are back to their best again this year after ' Hum Tum ' and ' Rok Sako To Rok Lo '. A highly melodious number, it boasts of rich lyrics and some excellent rendition by Udit Narayan. This number, that is picturized on the lead hero in good locations, deserves to be promoted more aggressively.
Alka Yagnik unites with Udit in ' Doli Leke Aaya Hain ' that is straight out of a Chopra/Johar setup. A rebellious number, though composed in a romantic fashion, it is about a lover-boy adamant about taking away his girl in a 'doli'. Did someone just say ' Le Jayenge Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge ' ( Chor Machaye Shor ) or ' Pyaar Kiya Hai Pyaar Karenge ' ( Ilzaam )? The scene is exactly the same and to the credit of Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Jatin Lalit, they make the song pleasant sounding and worth a hear. And as soon as the scales of the song dangerously come close to the title song of ' Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai ' by the composer duo of Jeet Pritam, Jatin Lalit sway the tune in a different direction! Subsequently Udit Narayan also does the sad version of the song while a 'much-mandated' ' Instrumental ' follows thereafter.
Someone really needs to patent the word 'Ishq' soon. Till such time there won't be any restrain on using the much used word in every other album. Case in example is 'Ishq' being a 'magician' this time in ' Jadugar Jadugar '. Opening lyrics are such that even a second standard student can sue the lyricists for using them over and again. And why not when they go like ' Hasae Kabhi To Rulae Kabhi - Kabhi Chain De To Satae Kabhi '! The tune is very unlike Jatin Lalit and even the presence of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik cannot save this supposedly racy youthful number from fading away.
After a forgettable 'magician', oops, 'Jadugar', Jatin Lalit realize their worth and come back very strongly with ' Pehli Nazar Ka Wo Pyar '. On the lines of ' Jaadu Hai Tera Hi Jaadu ' from ' Ghulam ', it has a melodious opening by Udit Narayan. While one settled down to the fact that the number is one of those soft romantic mushy numbers, arrives Sunidhi Chauhan who turns the song upside down and takes it to a different note altogether. Pace catches up with the song and the theme changes to 'I am the most in demand girl in the town'! This is not where the song ends as 'bhangra beats' catch up soon with Alka Yagnik's entry. Number takes a switch to a frothy kind here and becomes livelier. Guitar beats follow soon after with Udit Narayan pumping up the jam and ensuring that the scene is from one of those Nasir Hussain's sequences with multiple tunes arriving one after another as a part of the single song. The track doesn't end here and takes multiple twists and turns for a few more minutes before coming to an end. Overall the number is a good experiment that works and makes for an ideal campus setting.
Melody re-emerges with ' Wo Din Yaad Karlo Sanam ' that, despite of a sad theme about a guy wanting his girl back in his life, doesn't drag and thankfully sounds good. Wordings in the song are good and they are sung well by Udit Narayan who plays his part with ease.
He continues with the good work in the final song (this time preceded instead of followed by an 'Instrumental') ' Resham Se Bhi Najuk Najuk '. The song is in fact the title song as the opening words are soon followed by ' Chand Sa Najuk Chehra '. Another melodious song that reminds of ' Deewana Main Chala ' from ' Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya ', it is again quite pleasing to ears and gives a feeling of contentment once it ends, hence marking the end of the album.
Music of ' Chand Sa Roshan Chehra ' is a nice support for the launch of new faces. The music is melodious, youthful and simple without any unnecessary frills. After a couple of insignificant albums by the music company T-Series, this one should be THE album where they should focus more on the publicity. CSRC may not boast of a starcast that could enable sales wrooming on the sales barometer in the first two weeks of its release but intensive publicity, word of mouth and genuinely good music will help it score well amongst the audiences.
