Any movie that is presented by 20th Century Fox is bound to have some good content, if not for all the segments of moviegoers, but at least for the select ones. The same expectations are from the actioner ' Bullet - Ek Dhamaka ' (OK, so the tagline 'Ek Dhamaka' was not really warranted for!!), that seems to be aimed at the masses at single screen theatres, who love to watch some good 'masala' entertainers. With action from Afghanistan's Asad Sikandar, ' Bullet ' is directed by Irfan Khan and has an interesting punch line - Time Was Running Out To Pull The Trigger!
Starring Asad Sikandar, Aseem Merchant, Iqbal Khan ( Fun2shh ), Saadhika and Rosy, this 'bolt from the blue' movie has an international look and gives the feel of either being just a glamorized medium budget movie or a truly international flick. While this will be known once the movie gets a proper release and is in the theatres, one can talk about the music that is composed by Anand Raj Anand and Somesh Mathur.
Title song of the movie - ' Bullet Ek Dhamaka ' (Never imagined in the lifetime that there would be a day when actually there would be a song composed on an entire 'Bullet') is composed by Somesh Mathur and is written and sung by Neha Bhasin (the VIVA girl). Well, the number is obviously situational, westernized, and is sung with a punch. For a situational song it is fine, but it sounds more like a title sequence of an action TV serial rather than a composition for a movie!
Anand Raj Anand comes on entirely his own with ' Mushkil Nahi Tha ' where he does everything from singing, writing to composing. A song that has an Indian feel but is composed around western arrangements, it is a love song that could have worked better with an Abhijeet or a Kumar Sanu at the helm. Singer Gauri Bapat does a female version of the number and is decent but overall, the number just passes muster and one impatiently hurries off to the next number.
After ARA, it is composer Somesh Mathur's turn to be behind the mike. ' Aahat Suni Maine ' is a ghazal that is composed as a soft number. Written by Neha Bhasin, it is a much better song than the earlier ones and is good indeed. A number that sounds more like a non-film pop number and also appears in a sad version, it is nice but still not the one that may make a person recommend 'Bullet' ( pun unintended) to a friend!
' Dhoka Dhoka Hai ' is the one that is again like a non-film pop number and is mainly a full-fledged chorus number. Written and composed by ARA, it is about love and deceit. This is one number that has a thumping effect and should do well with the movie. A theme track follows next in the shape of ' The Dance Of Destruction ' with similar effect and results.
After a rocking ' Ishq Kabhi Kariyo Naa ', ARA brings ' Ishq Asaan Hai ' that is plain average. Even more surprising is the fact that the number had the backing of Daler Mehendi's vocals. But in the attempt of creating a Sufi feel, there is not much in the end actually and the number joins the list of other average songs.
Music of ' Bullet Ek Dhamaka ' follows a linear path throughout and has a consistent westernized theme. Nothing wrong about that but the trouble is that the compositions in totality do not really work. Most of them are situational and do not really make for an interesting audio that one may want to hear at home or on drive. Yes, with the movie they may work well in the background, but that's it. Also, a title like 'Bullet' will very much ensure that the album continues to grace the audio stands in a music showroom rather than an audio rack next to your personal music system!
