  Music Reviews

'Anjaane – The Unknown' is one of those Himesh Reshammiya composed films that he must have signed when he was still an upcoming music director. A Sneh Mehta production that marks the debut of director Harryy W Fernandes, 'Anjaane' stars Sanjay Kapoor, Manisha Koirala and Tejaswini Kolhapure in lead roles. Stuck since a long time in the cans, this horror flick is now set for release. In spite of Reshammiya and Sameer on the credits, one doesn't have any expectations from the music.

A lifeless title song 'Anjaane' marks the beginning of the album and in spite of presence of Kunal Ganjawala fails to take off at all. A love song, it may just result in your beloved running away if you sing this song to her. Some haunting chorus whispering 'Anjaane' in the background further makes the track scary. To drag things further, there is an Alka Yagnik version of the song too!

Scary feel continues as soon as you read the title for the next song 'De Do Re De Do' and you wonder what the genre of the number would be. Himesh Reshmmiya directly lifts the opening percussions of A.R.Rehman’s ‘Aae Yae Yo’ track from Rangeela for this number. Reshammiya's favorite Jayesh begins the track with a forceful rendition with Sunidhi Chauhan taking over the scene soon. An item song, it has the feel of a disco track from Mithun Chakraborty movies in the early 80s. The song is just not happening and is plain boring.

Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik coming together for a song more often than not guarantees a good outing and one gets similar hopes when this happens for the love duet 'Ishq Hai'. In any other movie, it could have been just one of the many Reshammiya melodies but such has been an after effect of first couple of tunes in 'Anjaane' that you feel 'Ishq Hai' is nothing short of a chartbuster. The song is reasonably melodious and though lyrics are routine, one can at least tolerate the entire song!

After a love duet, a children's duet 'Mummy Cool Cool' is sung by Baby Mohini Roy and Master Sohail. Sorry but it is no 'Lakdi Ki Kaathi' [Masoom] and in spite of usage of number of instruments for the purpose of giving the song a childish feel, the track doesn't impress at all. Completely avoidable!

A trademark Reshammiya foot tapping number comes in the end of the album as 'Soni Re' and is sung by K.K. and Sapna Mukarji. Unfortunately there are two factors that go against it. One, it is not one of the best from Reshammiya and two, it comes too late in the album. Also the roll of 'r's and a western attitude in rendition has been done to death by the composer now with no one quite interested in a similar style any more.

'Anjaane' is one album that meets expectations to the T. One expected from the beginning that there won't be much in store from the music of this movie and the same holds good after one is through hearing the entire album.
