'Adharm', a movie by producer director Adeep Singh (who also does the story and screenplay), is a violent story about injustice and inhumanity and how a common man battles against these. A Fairdeal International P. Ltd. presentation, 'Adharm' stars newfind Rocky Khanna with Rahul Dev, Namrata Shirodkar, Sonali Kulkarni and Sayaji Shinde in principal roles. The film has music by debutante Rajeindra Shiv and 5 lyricists for total six songs!
'Maine Kabhi' is a melodious love song written by Shahab Allahabadi and sung by Sonu Nigam and Kavita Krishnamurthy. Kavita's voice suits Namrata to the T who looks beautiful as always in her minimal makeup and girl-next-door costumes. The song is catchy, easy to ears and reminds one of the musical score that Jatin Lalit use to compose till some years back.
The same pair of Sonu and Kavita re-unite in 'Jaane Kiya Kya' which is good as well but is marred by some weak choreography. It looks silly to see everyone dressed as villagers in a song that has modern beats and today's melody. Nevertheless this song written by Asad Ajmeri is good to listen to and one doesn't mind playing it a few times around.
Another song that immediately catches your attention on the first listening itself is 'Tanhayee' written by Saeed Rahi. Roop Kumar Rathod's good form continues and he manages to convey the pain and loneliness of the protagonist very well. Saeed Rahi's lyrics are fresh whereas Rajeindra Shiv succeeds in getting the right notes in place for such a track. The song is not for everyone to hum and sing around due to it's slow and sad nature but has good quality music.
Another sad track that follows soon after is 'Bichadke Apni' by Mohit Chauhan (who had earlier sung the hilarious 'Pehi Nazar Mein Mile Thi' for Manoj Bajpai in Road). This number is not as impactful as 'Tanhayee' and due to its situational nature, may just be lost after the movie is gone.
Another thought provoking sad number that makes its presence felt is 'Gaon Ki Galiyan'. A full-throated slow number by Mohit Chauhan and Naeem Ajmeri, it has good lyrics by Prasoon Joshi. Both the singers bring about pain in their vocals but due to the song's depressing theme, it may just be heard more rather than being sung. Another situational track that does well for itself!
Since every other album today, regardless of a movie's theme, is incomplete without an item song, Adharm too follows suit and presents 'Jeev Levega'. Based on traditional tunes, the song is written by Asad Ajmeri and sung by Jaspinder Narula. Not a great number by any means, it is just about OK and may just be lost in the crowd of other item tracks.
'Adharm' does have it's share of average to above average songs, but the major hitch is minimal production values (stars, sets, locations, publicity) due to which the songs do not catch your attention when promoted on the television channels, which is such an integral part in a film's promotion, today. Lack of any star value also proves to be a hindrance. Title of the movie that gives an impression about what the movie is all about is another drawback. Regardless of the fine music, all these factors combined together may prove to be a dent in the album's sale.
