  Music Reviews

Suno Sasurjee is a comedy directed by Vimal Kumar which stars Aftab Shivdasani and Amisha Patel in the lead where Sasurjee is played by Kader Khan. Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Asrani fill in the supporting cast of Suno Sasurjee that has music by Sanjeev Darshan and lyrics by Sameer.

Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik sing a routine Bollywood 'ishtyle' track 'Jab Dil Dhadakta Hai'. A very predictable number choreographed with equally predictable dance steps. In short the number is such a drag that one wishes when will the next number start. But the switch-over to the second number too isn't anything to cheer up. Now do you really expect much from a number that goes like 'Tota Mirchi'. Never knew that the composers of 'Mera mann kyo tujhe chahe' - Mann could stoop down to composing double entendre stuff like 'Tota Mirchi Kha Gaya'. Agreed that Sanjev Darshan are new to the industry and still haven't established themselves as such. But a singer like Alka Yagnik has no business singing this one. Add to this the skimpy outfits wore by Amisha Patel and one wonders whether she is the same actress who graced Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and Gadar. The only target audience to such a number could be the front benchers and no one else.

'Aap Kahan Rehte Hai' is a 60's - 70's Rajesh Khanna style of song that was sung by Kishore Kumar - Lata Mageshkar. It is a question-answer kind of a number where the lead players sing as well as talk in between. Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik sing this number which is basically old fashioned with some new arrangements. 'Saason Se Saasen' seems to be a seductive number by Babul Supriyo and Hema Sardesai. The song is 'thanda' - now it is to be seen whether on-screen it succeeds in generating some heat!!

'Aaa Jaa' is just one of those millions other pacy numbers sung by once-popular Jaspinder Narula. Here the heroine is waiting for her prince charming who meets her in dreams, to come and meet her in reality!! Don't remember when last did Jaspinder Naula deliver a hit number. No probs with her singing but it's just that no potential hit is coming her way.

'Kardo Kardo Shaadi Sasurjee' by Sonu Nigam, Vinod Rathod, Sapna Mukherjee and Arshad is 100% similar to 'Dulhan To Jaayegi Dulhe Raja Ke Saath' from Dulhe Raja - style wise, lyrics wise, singing wise, arrangements wise, situation wise!! Here again Kader Khan plays the prospective father-in-law of Aftab whereas Amisha plays the daughter. The situation is about Aftab requesting Kader Khan for his daughter's song. Lyrics by Vinay Bihari get into argument kind of mode towards the end of the number between the sasur-damaad while beti too chips in a bit in the mid. A purely situational number.

'Mera Dil Churake' by Kumar Sanu and newcomer Prabha is a routine 80's style pyaar-mohabbat song. Lyrics by Sameer are so common that you can actually predict what's going to be the second line after hearing to the first. A boring song.

A very ordinary musical score which is a mis-fit when something very different is being successfully attempted with the likes of say, a Dil Chahta Hai or a Asoka or a Devdas !!
