It's raining movies for Karan Nath. After winning praises for his anti-hero portrayal in Ssshhhh.…, he will soon be seen in LOC among the horde of male leads and then as a solo lead in 'Tum - A Dangerous Obsession'. His co-stars are Manisha Koirala, Netanya Singh and Rajat Kapoor. Aruna Raje (Rihaii, Bhairavi) writes and directs this drama cum thriller, which is a Venus records and Tapes production.
Himesh Reshammiya turns over a new leaf in his growing career with 'Kyun Mera Dil'. Deviating completely from his trademark masala mix compositions, he concentrates on melody and rediscovers the tunes of the 70s. Though it may seem to be an overstatement, somehow the overall number reminds of the compositions of legendary Gulzar-RD combos. After singing some real forgettable tracks in past few months, Adnan is back at his best in this romantic number with a touch of pain. Sameer uses a simplistic route to convey emotions and succeeds well in that.
Shreya Goshal does well in the sweet'n'simple 'Dil To Udne Laga' which seems to be composed for a teenager who is in love (though it may be a different scenario altogether if it is choreographed on Manisha instead). A nice tune, it should be worth watching when narrated in the movie.
On the flip side is 'Rehna To Hain' which drags right from the word 'GO' and is as avoidable as a winter cold. Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik are in their 'disinterested' best and Himesh surprises with his lackluster tune. This one could easily have been given a skip if not for another version of the same track by Roopkumar Rathod who brings some life to the track. His vocals, which are best suited for such numbers, bring some dignity to an otherwise lifeless track.
'Sangdil Sanam' is a cry of seduction where singer Anuradha Sharma does well in creating a seductive mood. Music and vocals complements each other well and the number may be another addition to the list of hot songs composed in 2003.
A tale of 'Behke Kadam' and 'pyaar kar le sanam', a long run and the overall popularity of this number is ruled out! Udit Narayan makes a late entry in the number (and the album) which surprisingly has intermediate lines (in between the vocals of Udit Narayan) by some other male singer (who has not been credited at all !!). A strange experiment (if it is one), it doesn't create any great impression.
Shaan croons 'Mera Dil Laile' - a fast paced 'ladki-pataofying' song, which is just about ok. Not a different or path-breaking composition by any means (we have seen many of such tracks composed for Akshay Kumar and the likes), Shaan tries to infuse some life in this track by doing some 'yoodle-doo' stuff but fails to raise the song from just being average.
After listening to the album, there is just one song that you really want to hear again - 'Kyun Mera Dil'. Apart from that there is nothing much to cheer about in 'Tum'.
