Rudraksh is the second directorial venture of Mani Shankar who earlier showed his technical prowess in the surprise hit of 2002 - 16 December. A sci-fi 'cum' mythological thriller - Rudraksh, which carries the tagline of 'The Power To Possess', stars close buddies Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty along with hot 'n' happening Bipasha Basu and Isha Kopikar. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, basking in the glory of musical hit 'Kal Ho Na Ho' are the composers along with Vishal-Shekhar and Shashi-Pritam. Sameer, Arun Bhairav and Mast Ali write.

The album gets a zip-start with 'Ishq Khudai' written by Arun Bhairav, which is one of the better dance floor songs composed this year. A happening track, it marks the re-entry of Sanju baba in his 'longish' hair locks again (last seen in Kartoos) with Bipasha looking stunning as ever. A catchy number composed by SEL and sung by Shankar, Mahalaxmi, Shweta and Krishna, it won't take much time before the songs picks up on the popularity charts. Also noticeable is the sets and cinematography of this number, which catches one's attention. Remix of this number carries with it an additional zing that makes the entire track doubly enjoyable!

'Ishq Hai Nasha Nasha' continues the same mood from 'Ishq Khudai' and is in the same genre of hip-hop music. A track for the dance floors, it is composed by whiz kids Vishal Shekhar and sung by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan who display their singing prowess once again.

'Dil Ki Aahein' composed by Shashi Pritam is a slow (and technically slick) love song by KK and Chitra which is written by Mast Ali. A sensual track, it has a range of musical instruments put to good use. The effect is simply haunting and should be entertaining when seen in a theatre.

Title song 'Rudraksh' begins on an excellent note with great musical arrangements by SEL. Written by Arun Bhairav, though there is a female voice too in the background who chants Sanskrit shlokas (put to good western arrangements), only Kunal has been credited. A situational track, it makes it's mark.

'Rak Rak Rak' carries the similar feel with it and has a haunting effect again. Sung by Gayatri Iyer, Kunal and Shekhar, it makes a hammer strong impact mainly due to some heavy vocals of all the singers and the techno musical beats which are a fusion of Western with Indian classical.

'Bole Dole' sung by Sandeep Bhaumik, Shashi Pritam (who also composes the track) and Chitra is a love song, which is different in the true sense. Though romantic in content, it is truly different in the way it has been treated. A good track.

'Kya Dard Hai' is preceded by some heavy breathing movements of a female and makes for an interested listening. Richa Sharma successfully breaks away from the mould of singing only traditional/item songs and sings a melodious romantic track. The track whose instrumental also appears in the album mainly belongs to Richa to whom Shankar gives good company. SEL compose this track well which is written by Sameer.

Best thing about Rudraksh is it's original tunes that do not seem to find any inspiration from the songs of present or past. There is not much for those audience who want to go for something predictable and typically Bollywood but for those who crave for something 'different', Rudraksh is the one for them.
