"Yet another candy-floss love story revolving around college teens !!" - one sighs when the promos of 'Yeh Dil' are aired !! Starring Tushaar Kapoor and the "Ding Dong" girl, oops !! Natasha (formerly Anita), Yeh Dil is a 'Violent Love Story' as Tushaar wishes to put across. Remake of a South hit, Yeh Dil is produced by Kiran and directed by the original director - Teja who also does the story and screenplay of the movie. As the album cover specifies, Yeh Dil has 'A MAGICAL SCORE' by Nadeem Shravan and Sameer. To know how effective is this magical spell, read on !!
Title song 'Yeh Dil' marks the beginning of this typical Nadeem Shravan album. Nadeem himself comes behind the mike and sings this track. Composition is quite good and the vocals are OK too, but one seriously wishes that the song may have sounded much better, if it had been offered to Shaan instead. The song is tailor made for him and the smooth sailing melody would have matched his singing style immensely. Though one must admit that Nadeem too doesn't do a bad job either !! Tauseef Akhtar does a short take on the 'Theme' version of the same song which is a bit faster !!
'Hey Kya Ladki Aayi' by Kavita Subramainam and Abhijeet is purely functional and is just another campus song. A number about the freshers joining the college and how everyone is falling over each other to jump into the 'pataofying' act !! 'Tera Dilbar' is right from the Nadeem Shravan stable. A very predictable melody about a couple wondering about when will they get married, it is in the same league as 'Main Agar Saamne Aa Bhi Jayoon' from Nadeem Shravan's 2002 HIT - Raaz. Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam do not make any great attempts at doing anything spectacular in the song and neither does the composition allows them to do so !! An average track.
Taufeeq Akhtar, another Nadeem Shravan protegee`, who came into limelight with the title song - 'Chaand Taare' of Tumse Achca Kaun Hai last year, sings a sad number 'Kyon Dil Bichde'. Again a plain average number, it fails to move you which is one of the most important ingredient of a sad number. A track from the 'dard-e-judaai' category, you have heard this kind before!! 'Ek Main Ek Tu' is one number that is somewhat better than most of the tracks and is melodious in true terms. not that is anything great but it somewhat lifts the proceedings when compared to the rest of the proceedings. Abhijeet is in his elements in this very number and reminds of his earlier days. upcoming Neerja Pandit gives him able support.
'Telephone' is a strange number about a couple who are waiting for each other's call on their 'telephone instruments'. Supposed to be designed for college going youths, it is just OK for the situation but chances are few that the song may actually be picked by the everyone alike. Beeps that you hear on pressing of telephone buttons forms some part of the music and though experimental, it doesn't make any noteworthy impact !! The proceedings go too much college-centric with the song 'College Mein'. The number about youngsters joining college for the fun of freaking out, going around with girls and having great time in the general, there is sadly no mention of studies or career !! Sonu Nigam just passes musters with this one.
Nadeem Shravan's tag may take this album to some distance. Otherwise there is just one way to summarize 'Yeh Dil' - Miss it and you won't miss the album of the decade !!
