OOPS !!
They have done it again !
Another crossover movie makes a round of Bollywood with OOPS !!
A flick about two young males who get into the profession of stripping in night clubs in search of some quick buck, it stars newcomers Kiran Janjani, Vikas Sethi and Adyasha well supported by Mink Singh, Kiran Kumar and Mita Vasisht (who is supposed to be a major highlight of the movie, going by the promos) This is the debut venture of writer/producer/director Deepak Tijori (Aashique, Sadak, Pehla Nasha, Ghulam) into
films. OOPS has music by Ravi Pawar (who does well in composing the music as per the demand of the script) and lyrics by Ajay
Jhingran (who writes remarkably different from typically pyaar, mohabbat, dil etc. etc. etc.)
There are at least four very different numbers (both tune and lyrics-wise) in OOPS - Yahein, Uljalul, Bhadka De and Alag Alag. Now
are they interesting enough or not (apart from being different)? Read on !!!
'Uljalul' - meaning 'irrelevant' !! This is what the main protagonists think about the way society has its philosophies. Damn it all and set
your own rules !! This is what Sonu Nigam and Harshdeep (in individual solos) have to say in the two versions. Though Sonu Nigam is
good as always, it is Harshdeep who surpises with her range after singing the weepy number - 'Sajna Mani Haari - Aapko Pehle Bhi
Kahi Dekha Hai' and recently cutting an album 'Romantica' with HMV. It is good to see her let her hair down with 'Uljalul', which is a
rocking number and should be popular with the disc goers at least. A song about choosing between money and love and clearing your
priorities - 'Alag Alag' is again a hip-hop number sung by Harshdeep, who impresses again.
'Yahein' is a Shaan number which seems to be a club dance number. No idea what 'Yahein' means (neither in English or Hindi !! ), but
the overall composition is again foot tapping. A number about having dreams in the eyes and fulfilling them, it may not go into the
history books as one of the best club numbers composed but certainly does well till it lasts !!! 'Bhadka De' is a kinda heavy metal
number with thumping background to support. Sung first as a solo by KK and then as his duet with Sunidhi Chauhan, it may not fall in
the same bracket as Yahein and Uljalul but still as we said earlier, does qualify to be - DIFFERENT !!
There are two love songs which follow a safe and predictable path - 'Jaane Ye Kya' and 'Aye Dil' !! 'Jaane Ye' sung by Sonu Nigam is
typically Sonu and it neither bores nor excites - kind of comes and goes and you do not really remember what it was all about. Mainly
a gap filler !! 'Aye Dil' by Hariharan too is a routine ghazal about asking your heart to show a path !! A little slow, it may just make a
fleeting appearance in the background of the narrative of the movie rather than being full fledged !!
Music of OOPS has certainly been aimed mainly at youth who should identify with such pop'n'rock genre. If Deepak Tijori is
successful in making the movie aesthetically (for global audience) rather than getting a bit titillating in approach (for a restricted
segment), then he should be applauded for getting something new to the Bollywood at the time when it is striving for some different
formula. He (with Ravi Pawar and Ajay Jhingran) has been successful in doing this with the music - let's see how does the movie fare
now !!
