Excellent publicity - this is what that comes to mind when one says 'Munnabhai M.B.B.S'. In the news since it's launch, making and now ready-to-be released, 'Munnabhai' is a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production who has an admirable lineup of movies behind him. With 'Munnabhai...' he returns with a comedy this time around and hands over the ropes of direction to the debutante Rajkumar Hirani. Story of a tapori (played by Sanjay Dutt) who is forced to pose as a doctor due to his father's (Sunil Dutt) demands. It is poised to be a laugh-a-minute riot that has Gracy Singh as his leading lady, Arshad Warsi as his right hand, along with Jimmy Shergill and Boman Irani. After working with Shankar Eshaan Loy in his last flick Mission Kashmir, Vidhu Vinod Chopra is again 'Kareeb' to Anu Malik and also ropes in his 'Kareeb' lyricist Rahat Indori.

The title track 'M Bole To' is audience specific as it caters to just one class - the class that loves Sanjay Dutt's antics as a street-smart fellow being. The number is catchy and is sung well by Vinod rathod and Sanjay Dutt. Prachi and Priya Mayekar chip in their bit in this Rahat Indori -Farhad written track.

'Dekh Le' is a sensual number by Sunidhi Chauhan, which has Anu Malik at his irritating best with his regular interludes. A number about looking forward to life and enjoying it to the core, though it appears in both regular and a remix version; it still falls in just-an-average category and doesn't impress much. Lyrics by Rahat Indori are also of no help.

'Apun Jaisa Tapori', as the title suggest, is a typically Sanjay Dutt style gallery track that will appeal to it's target audience. A number written by 'Abbas Tyrewala' and sung by Sanjay Dutt, Vinod Rathod and Arshad Warsi, it has Sanjay Dutt narrating a few incidents about his 'tapori' life so far and is humorous and sad in turns. Still, it impresses just in parts mainly due to its un-inoriginality (because such tapori numbers have been done to death) and has the same routine music. A track mainly for Sanju baba's fans.

'Chann Chann' written by Rahat Indori comes as a welcome relief after a couple of loud songs and is graceful as the leading lady Gracy Singh. A sole romantic song in the entire album, it has Vinod Rathod in good form after ages who renders this romantic song with ease. Wish he could sing more such numbers in the style of 'Ae Mere Humsafar' as he did years back in Baazigar. His vocals suit Sanjay Dutt to the T and make for a good hearing. Though not a great number by any standards that may rip apart the musical charts, it still is a pleasant number to hear after all the previous songs.

But alas, this feel-good effect is short lived, as what follows soon is 'Subaha Ho Gayi Mamu'. A situational track, it doesn't add much to the already dwindling fortunes of Munnabhai MBBS. Shaan also fails to make his presence felt and there is nothing worth remembering in lyrics by Abbas Tyrewala.

One is really surprised to hear such a lifeless score in a Vidhu Vinod Chopra movie which is always known for it's lovely music as much as the movie itself. Parinda, 1942-A Love Story, Kareeb and Mission Kashmir are apt examples of this. Though the music has been preceded by an excellent pre-release publicity, it hasn't been able to make much of an impression. Hope the movie lives up the so-very-high expectations that have come up due to the innovative promos!
