'Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost' - this is the title of the latest latest movie starring vulnerable Abhishek Bachchan and sexy'n'sultry Lara Dutta, which is derived from the hit number - 'Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Dost Ko Salaam Karo' from Vinod Khanna - Rekha starrer Aap Ki Khatir. The song may or may not have had relevance in the original movie but the makers of the movie MSAMD claim that the title of their movie itself convey an idea about the underlying theme of the movie. MSAMD is a movie about a remote village in Rajasthan that still doesn't have any electricity since ages, though the world is living in the 21t century. Small B plays the main protagonist whereas this should be a second release of Lara Dutta after Andaaz. From the promos and the album design so far, Lara gives an impression that she is very forthright (and confident) about her strengths and in the coming months she should be giving tough competition to Bipasha Basu in that regards !!! MSAMD is produced by Vishal Nihalani and directed by debutant director Apoorva Lakhia. Now this is an onus on these young breed of film-makers to really creates something different from the trash that is being served today.

The promos of MSAMD have already generated curiosity and the cinematography and locations have already made tongues wagging about the movie's comparisons with the feel of Lagaan !! Music is composed by Anu Malik who had done wonders earlier with Abhishek's debut vehicle - Refugee. Let's see how does MSAMD fair...!!

The album begins on a very positive note with already popular - 'Shaher Ka Jaadu Re' sung by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik (who sing three duets in total). A ched-chad song between gaon-ka-naujawan who has just returned after a brief stint in a city and a gaon-ki-gori who prefers her 'gaon' any time over a 'shaher', it is pretty entertaining and is sung well too. The song has been well choreographed and Lara certainly catches your breath away. Abhishek is charming as well. Overall, a decent composition. The same singer duo sing a soft romantic number - 'Mujhe Tune Jo Dekha To' which is good but not instantly catchy. A number that will be liked by a selective audience who love listening to soft'n'subtle music'.

But from here on, the album diverts it's way from love and mush to a hardcore item number - 'Saiyaan' sung in a 'ooh-so-sensual' tone by Sunidhi Chauhan. She changes her pitch from being shrill to outright husky and manages to raise oomph !! The only problem is that you are kind of taken a back since you were least expecting such a number in a movie that was designed to be artistically different. Leave aside all these thoughts and you will end up enjoying this number.

'Koi Bheega Hai Rang Se' is a holi number (it comes in quick succession after another Holi number Rang De Rang De from Nayee Padosan) sung by the Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Though the treatment is altogether different from 'Rang De' as here it is more rusty in it's packaging and is built on a classical base. It is a bit doubtful whether audience will really lap it up with both hands.

'Jeetenge Baazi Hum' by Sonu Nigam and Mahalaxmi has the musical arrangements by Ranjit Barot and is a rebel number about how the suppressed raise their voice and lent their thoughts and make the world listen. In the lines of Chale Chalo from Lagaan, it is situational and should do well with the film's proceedings. Special mention to Ranjit Barot for enabling the fusion between Western and Indian music for the arrangements of this number. Ditto for Amar Mohile who creates a good instrumental - 'The Journey' that should be conveying the mood of the movie.

In MSAMD, Anu gives a mix of many kinds - 2 love songs, one item song, a holi song and a song about rebellion. An album that may not be very promising when listened in isolation but may grow and do well with the movie.

Average !!
