Kyon? - A movie about how youth from affluent families of urban society are pushed towards crime and drugs, it is the latest
socio-thriller all set to hit the marquee. Though there have been a few movies in recent past (most recent being Supari) and
unreleased Paanch tackling the same theme, it is to be seen how Kalpana Lajmi (Ek Pal, Darmiyaan, Rudaali, Daman) does it
differently and more interestingly in her first commercial venture !! Produced by Excel Visons and Concepts, music is composed by
Kalpana's favorite Bhupen Hazarika and Prasoon Joshi writes. Kyon? stars Rahul Dev, Amit Jain, Sachit Patil, Prateeksha, Sanobar
Kabir, Chaitanya Choudhary and Soni Razdan.
Bhupen Hazarika - you read the name and wonder how the music of Kyon? would be, when the entire starcast is young and hip !! But
you are really surprised when the music turns out to be gelling so well with today's times. A rocking score, you are taken in for a
joyride through most of the numbers. Not that the numbers do not carry the much welcomed Bhupen Hazarika's stamp. Check out
'Dheere Se', 'Badalon Ki Oat Mein' and 'Ja Re Ja' !! 'Dheere Se' is a very melodious number based on a folk tune but re-arranged very
well to suit even the youngsters who look for quality music. Alka Yagnik gives her 200% for this number as she sounds completely
different from her usual self. She sings in a husky manner and does it excellently !!
Though this may not fetch her an award in the
popular awards category, it should stand out to be one of the highlights of her career !! 'Badalon Ki Oat Mein' appears twice in the
album as solos - by Bhupen Hazarika and then by Asha Bhonsle. Again a combination of a folk tune re-arranged as a movie's track, it
casts an impression, especially the version by Ashaji which may be more recognized due to it's being more commercially viable !!
Ashaji sings another number - 'Ja Re Ja' which is entertaining again. An item number - it is already been talked about in the industry
to be a highlight of the movie as it is being picturized on Soni Razdan in a disc !!
If the album has it's share of folksy music tailored according to today's generation, on the flip side there are some really rocking
numbers - 'Tadak Tadak', 'Sun Le Sarah Jahan' and instrumental - 'Rave Music' - that make you hit the dance floor straight. 'Tadak
Tadak' (not be confused with 'Tadap Tadap' !!) is a techno number sung by Dominique, KK, Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan and is
very catchy. A number about 'I care the damn about the world', it is a youthful track and should be a campus/disc number. 'Sun Le
Sarah Jahaan' sung by KK is another youthful number in the same league and does well !!
But the best of all surprises is the
instrumental - 'Rave Music' which is very much with the times. It is foot tapping, exciting as well as haunting at the same times.
International in it's approach, you just can't stop admiring the versatility of Bhupen Hazarika.
The album concludes with a so-sweet number - 'Aise Koi Jaata Hai' !!
Extremely melodious, it is sung by KK and is about calling the
loved one back. Prasoon Joshi writes touching lyrics here. A very hummable number.
Publicity of this album has not been up to mark till now as not many people are even aware that the album has been released. A good
musical score, the sales of the album should be on the swing with right kind of publicity.
