'Kucch To Hai', a flick with a tantalizing title and supposedly a remake of Hollywood Flick 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' is the second offing from the house of Balaji Films Ltd. Their earlier venture Kyuki Main Jhuth Nahi Bolta' starring Govinda was also a remake of 'Liar Liar' starring Jim Carrey and was a colossal flop. But KTH looks far more promising and exciting primarily due to the excellent promos aired on the television off-late. They are crisp, scary and contain a lots of suspense.

Directed by debutante Anil V Kumar, it stars (obviously !!) Tusshar Kapoor, brother of Ekta Kapoor who produces the movie along with mother Shobha Kapoor. He pairs up again with Esha Deol after Kya Dil Ne Kaha. Newcomer Natasha makes her debut while Yash Tonk a.k.a. Kunal/Kuljeet in the popular soap 'Kahiin Kissi Roz' too arrives on the silver screen as a campus villain. Sameer and Anu Malik are in-charge of the music department.

There are two refreshingly melodious songs in the shape of 'Itni Pyaari Nahi Lagi Aaj Tak - Hai Rey' and 'Kya Pyaar Karoge Mujhse'. The latter sung by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik is a very soothing number and the subtleties of the tune and the lyrics are something to be appreciated. The background music that comes along with the visuals in the thriller promos of KTH is the starting point of 'Kya Pyaar Karoge Mujhse'. The track is very slow but just keeps sailing smooth without dragging (which is very common in today's scenario where the songs tend to drag on the pretext of being smooth !!) The number may not become popular among the yuppy crowd but will be loved by the ones who appreciate soft music. 'Hai Rey' again comes in the same 'Soft-songs' category. Sung by Babul Supriyo and Sadhana Sargam, the effect is just the same as 'Kya Pyaar...' Interesting factor is to see Sadhana singing the opening song in a Hindi movie album after a long long time, and she does full justice to this.

Two tracks that remind of the 50's and 60's era are 'Hone Laga' and 'Yeh Mera Dil' respectively. 'Hone Laga' is tailor made for Kavita Krishnamurthy but is in fact sung by newcomer Priya Bhattacharya and Sunidhi Chauhan. A number composed in the style of a Geeta Bali track, it is fun to be heard due to its old fashioned approach. Both the singers too are efficient as they sing about their first love crush. But the house will surely go down with the track 'Yeh Mera Dil' which is by Shaan and Sunidhi again. Sunidhi scores with pitching her voice sensually and modulating it effectively. Anu Malik deserves appreciation for the manner in which he has orchestrated the entire number. And the credit must go to the song director and the dress designer to the choreographer and the cameraman for recreating the 60's effect. Also look out for Esha's false eyelashes modeled on mom Hema Malini and Tushhar Kapoor's checkered shirt. A riot !!

Incidentally solo 'Pyaar Pyaar Mein' by Sonu Nigam is the most 'kamzor-kadi' of KTH. A fast love track, it is nothing new and plain predictable as Sonu has sung such songs in millions by now. 'Ding Dong' is catchy and gets on you as soon as you hear it when you end up tapping your feet to it. A good rhythmic track, Sunidhi surprises again with the varied pitch with KK coming in his own. And yes, you can forget about the lyrics because you really won't wish to follow the intricacies of something like 'Dil Ding-Dong-Ding Bole' !!

'Aisa Kyon Hota Hai' - a campus number is sung again by KK and Sunidhi Chauhan. Mainly comprising of some college pranks, some popular 'Door se dekha....' series of jokes (and some really crass ones !!), it may be the opening track of the movie to set the mood of the campus surroundings in the movie. But since there are better tracks in the album, it is surprising to see this one repeating twice !!

In one line, KTH is a "ready to cook-fast to serve-quick to eat" kinda soundtrack. Have it, relish it, enjoy a satisfying burp go to sleep !!
