Khel - No Ordinary Game !! Well, it is true as no game can really be just ordinary when you have macho
men like Sunny Deol and Sunil Shetty coming together with debutant Ajay Jadeja (how much we have
waited for him to ignite the screen with his boyish charm !! ) and siren Celina Jaitely. This debut production
of Sunil Shetty, under the banner of Popcorn Motion Pictures, is directed by another debutant director
Yusuf Khan, who is already considered HOT in the industry. Times Music presents this album that has
music by 'Dude's Music Company' (interesting !!), Daboo Malik and Baboo Mann !!
The first three songs of Khel appear for each of the three lead heroes - Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty and Ajay
Jadeja. The first one is a very good track - 'Pyaar Hone Laga' though it has strong undercurrents of Jatin
Lalit composed 'Jaadu Hai Tera Hi Jaadu' from Ghulam. But never mind the 'inspirations', the number holds
on well due to some good singing by Kumar Sanu and Kavita Krishnamurthy, Faaiz Anwar's lyrics and
lavish picturization on the snow filled mountains. Cinematography is excellent as well and it would be no
no surprise if the song goes some way. There seems to be some connection between Celina Jaitely and
the lyrics 'Pyaar Hone Laga Hai' as she lip syncs to the same words with Fardeen Khan in Jaanasheen as
well !! Even Sunil Shetty charms in his new found mature-man avtaar in this number!!
The second number should be picturized on Ajay Jadeja as it has that youthful feel about it. Though 'Kiya
Hai' written by Salim Bijnori is typical in terms of tune, it still is a good romantic number elevated mainly
by some very good arrangements in the background. The number again has that lavish feel about it and the
vocals by Shaan, S.Shaileja and K.Shailendra make for a good hearing !!!
The third number 'Sharrata' (don't confuse it with Sharara though !!) is a sure shot hit from the word GO !!
An instantly catchy number, it is definitely shot on Sunny Deol, as one can make out from the strong
Punjabi flavor of the number. A number about being drunk and making merry, this should have Sunny paaji
in full form and should go well with his fans. Babbu Mann, who recently composed for 'Hawayein' churns
out a good composition in 'Sharrata' that is sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Rahul B. Seth and himself.
'Tumko Kitna Hai Pyaar' is a regular fare from the Bollywood music scene and is on the middle track -
neither bad nor chartbuster either. An average number composed by Daboo Malik, written by Praveen
Bhardwaj and sung by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, it somehow lags behind when compared with
other tracks in the Khel. Though, it may have certainly stood out if composed in some other run-of-the-mill
movie.
Fans of Kumar Sanu may jump with joy when a solo by him of 'Pyaar Hone Laga Hai' begins as 'Moments
of Passion', but then this joy may just be short-lived as the number is just one line. But nevertheless, he
leaves an impact and the arrangements, that truly convey passion, are noteworthy too !! Same follows for
S.Shaileja, who does the same one liner, though in a much subtle manner with soft music as background,
in 'Moments of Love' !!
Well, everyone knows that Ajay Jadeja has all his life been a party animal !! This is witnessed on the
screen in 'Chori Chori' which is, just like Sharrata, a HIT from the very first listening !! Many things go in
favor of the song - first and foremost being the craze to see Ajay Jadeja swinging his legs and waist (rather
than his bat !!) with Celina in a typical Bollywood fashion !! Then the high production values give that
desired funky angle to the song which should easily become popular with the youth. Well, needless to
say, even a child can tell that when there is such a number in an album then either a remix or at least an
instrumental of the same is mandatory to be placed. Well, your guess is as good as ours as the
instrumental of the same does appear as Chori Chori - 'Reprise' and we, for this matter, do not really
complain !!
One thing that stands out after watching the promos, the songs and listening to the rest of the numbers is
that Sunil Shetty, as a producer, has left no stones unturned to give 'Khel' and upmarket and lavish look.
The heavy starcast and the casting coup of getting Ajay Jadeja in one of the major leads should arouse
craze in the country that has majorly two sources of entertainment - movies and cricket. And if the
glamour is available from both the fields, then it is literally 'Sone Pe Suhaaga' !!
Sunil Shetty has definitely won the 'Khel' in music. Now let's await the results of the movie 'Khel'
